PENANCE SERVICE: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish will host an Advent Penance Service in conjunction with Sts. Peter and Paul Parish tonight, Thursday, December 20. We invite all to join us.
JUNIOR HIGH ADVENT PROJECTS: Students in junior high earned the privilege of wearing high school or college spiritwear by donating money to Embrace the Children, a fundraising group dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned children in Masaka, Uganda. Our students raised enough money to purchase 125 chicks for a branch of this organization called “Chicks for Children.” The Ugandan orphans will be taught how to partially support themselves through the raising of these donated chicks. Another fundraiser in which our junior high students participated during the Advent season was collecting canned goods to be given to Valley Interfaith for distribution to area families. They brought in a total of 399 cans of food and earned the right to enjoy popcorn and/or a can of pop (depending on how many cans they donated) while watching Home Alone on Wednesday, December 19. Thank you to junior high students and families for their generosity during this time of waiting.
PRO KIDS: Advent for our fifth and sixth graders took on special meaning when they decided to adopt a family for Christmas through Pro Kids. They found out about two additional families who needed their help and so ended up providing Christmas for 12 children who wouldn’t otherwise had much of one. Due to the generosity of our fifth and sixth graders and their families, each child in these three families received several gifts that were on a list of requested items in addition to a stocking stuffed with necessities--all beautifully wrapped by the students. We’re not sure who was on the receiving end of this exchange!
SANTA SHOP: A huge “thank you” to April Vogt and her dedicated crew of “elves” for all the shopping, organizing, wrapping, assisting, and cleaning up that was required in the running of our Santa Shop this year. We certainly appreciate the moms who made it possible for our students to purchase Christmas gifts for their families and friends.
LIBRARY NEWS: Check out your local libraries. We have sent an updated A.R. list to the Sycamore (Blue Ash), Reading, Sharonville, and Deer Park branches of the Public Library. If we missed your local library, please let the school office know; we will get an A.R. list to them, also.
THANK YOU! The OLSH library wishes to thank the Gallo family for their generous donation of books.
CAFETERIA MOMS/DADS: Cafeteria volunteers—please look for a paper coming home today that lists some tips on what the teachers and staff would like you to do while volunteering in there. We have compiled a list upon request!
FIRST RECONCILIATION MEETING: Second graders will receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation on February 13, 2008. There will be a meeting on Wednesday, January 9, at 7 p.m. in the church to explain this sacrament. We ask that at least one parent of each second grader attend this very important meeting.
