EARLY ARRIVALS: Parents, please do not drop off your children before 7:25 a.m. We cannot guarantee that there will be a teacher here to be responsible for your child. If you have unusual circumstances that require you to bring your child earlier than 7:25, please send a note addressed to Ms. Fischesser to the office.
BRR! Please make sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. This would include hats and gloves and some leg covering for girls wearing skirts or jumpers. We will go outside for recess unless wet weather or severe temperatures make going outside unsafe for the children.
YAC JUNIOR HIGH DANCE: Junior high students—join your friends from OLSH and area schools tonight, Friday, December 7, in the Activity Center for the YAC-sponsored junior high dance. Please see the flyers coming home today with all seventh- and eighth-grade students. Contact Ed Riordan at 769-3893 or email him at eriordan@zoomtown.com for further information.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT: Mrs. Becky Jones’ Beginning and Advanced Band students from OLSH and area schools will present a Christmas Concert at Ursuline Academy this Monday, December 10, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to join them! Contact Becky Jones at 632-8596 or by email at dbjones1@fuse.net for more information.
EMBRACE THE CHILDREN: Junior high students are bringing home today a flyer explaining this fundraiser. Junior high students paying $1 on Tuesday, December 11, may wear a high school shirt or sweatshirt of their choice for the day. Junior high students bringing in $2, in addition to wearing the high school shirt/sweatshirt of their choice, may name one of the chickens that these donations will buy for the children of Masaka, Uganda. Please see the flyer for a complete explanation of this endeavor.
PTO: Since we have no new business to discuss/vote on and in the spirit of “giving” during this holiday season, the PTO Board has decided to give you back the gift of time. Therefore, there will be no meeting next Tuesday, December 11. We hope to see you at our January meeting. We’ll keep you posted via the PTO Newsletter.
CHRISTMAS SHOP: Look for order envelopes coming home today with each of your children to be used for the Christmas Shop that will be held in the Community Room next Thursday and Friday, December 13 and 14, during school hours. Contact April Vogt at 794-1617 if you have questions.
RECOGNITION: Thanks to the organization provided by Mrs. Julie Gorsuch and the generosity of our school community, OLSH families sent in over 3000 items to put into the “Stockings for the Soldiers.” On Friday, December 14, members of the Sharonville Federated Women’s Club will come to OLSH to present the teachers and students with special awards in appreciation of this collection. You are invited to join us for this presentation in the Activity Center immediately following the 8:15 a.m. all-school Mass on that day.
THANKS FROM THE LIBRARY: The OLSH library would like to thank the Sutor and McFarland families for the donation of tubs of books to be used here at our school.

HOLIDAY ON THE FARM: Plan to visit the Gorman Farm next weekend, December 15 and 16, from 2 p.m. ‘til 8 p.m. for a “farm-style” Christmas celebration. Visit www.gormanfarm.org for more information about this event and Gorman Farm in general.
BE AWARE: Every so often, along comes a film that creates a furor among Catholics and other Christians. Now we have The Golden Compass, based on the book of the same name, written by Philip Pullman as part of his trilogy, His Dark Materials. Pullman is a self-proclaimed atheist; and his books have a definite anti-religious theme and, some would say, a strong and overtly anti-Catholic bias. Though information about The Golden Compass appears in a variety of places, the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis suggests this website: Sr. Rose Pacatte, FSP, Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies. She has a well-reasoned and reasonable approach to The Golden Compass and, for that matter, to any religiously controversial film. You can find Sr. Rose’s review here: http://journals.aol.com/rosepacatte/mymovies/entries/2007/10/30/golden-compass-the-movie/1690. Neither the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis nor the Archdiocese of Cincinnati endorses views opposed to or in favor of this film. This information is provided simply to help the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese make their own decisions. The Golden Compass opens in theaters this weekend.
YMCA PROGRAM: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital has teamed up with the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati to create FUN2BFIT, a 12-month comprehensive weight management program for youth ages 8 through 13 and their families. The program begins January 17, 2008; there is an information session on January 12, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Blue Ash YMCA. Contact Amanda Gier, Wellness Director, at 791-5000.
BABYSITTING AVAILABLE: Mt. Notre Dame’s Big Sis program is hosting a babysitting day on Saturday, December 15, from 9 a.m. ‘til 3 p.m. at Mt. Notre Dame High School. Kids ages 2 through 10 are invited to come to MND for all or part of the day to play with the “big sisters” (juniors and seniors from MND) and give moms and dads a chance to do some Christmas shopping, baking, cleaning, or whatever. Parents are asked to register children in advance. Registration forms are available on MND’s website: www.mndhs.org (go to News and Events). This service is free, but donations are being accepted from participants to support MND’S Big Sis program. Go to www.mndhs.org for a description of this community service program.
