MEDICAL LEAVE: Ms. Fischesser will be having surgery on her shoulder on Wednesday, November 14 and will require a minimum of two weeks recuperation time. She hopes to return the week of November 26. Please join us in wishing her a quick recovery!
FALL PICTURES: Lifetouch Fall photos are coming home today with your children. If you are happy with your child’s pictures and would like to order additional prints, please see the information included in the portrait package. If your child was absent on October 18 (Picture Day) or if you are not happy with his pictures, retake day is Monday, November 19. Remember to send in the original portrait package with your child if he is having his picture retaken on November 19. Call the school office if your child was absent on October 18 and you need a new order form.
PENNIES FOR PIES: We collected $315 (that’s a lot of coins to roll!), which helped us to purchase 35 pies for our Student Government Thanksgiving Food baskets. This was the largest collection we’ve ever had for Pennies for Pies. Thank you all for being so generous!
MARKET DAY: Congratulations to homeroom 5-S for winning the pie party (which they will enjoy on Tuesday, November 20). They sold an amazing 40 pies!! Overall, our school sold 310 pies. Thank you to all who bought and sold pies and also to the volunteers who helped fill and double-check the orders—your help was appreciated. Thank you also to those who donated pies for our Thanksgiving Baskets. Your donated pies combined with pies purchased through Pennies for Pies, we are able to provide two pies per basket!! Our profit for November was approximately $1,225—we earned $2.75 for each pie! As a reward for all your work, all students may be OUT OF UNIFORM on Monday, November 19. Market Day is such an easy fundraiser in that you purchase food for your family and the holidays and OLSH earns a portion of the sale. So far this year we have earned $2099. What a deal!!! Thank you! Barb Adelmann, Patty High, Wendy Schworer, and Lisa Schoenberger.
THANKSGIVING BASKETS: Don’t forget to send in the items requested for your child’s grade for Thanksgiving baskets to be filled and distributed to area families. A flier came home last week that listed the items needed and which items are being requested from which grades. In case you have misplaced your flier, here’s what we are requesting to fill the baskets: K—large boxes of Jell-O; Grade 1—16-oz. cans of fruit; Grade 2—16-oz. cans of vegetables; Grade 3—16-oz. cans of cranberry sauce and dinner rolls; Grade 4—16-oz. jars/cans of turkey gravy and large boxes of instant potatoes; Grade 5—gallon jugs of milk; Grade 6—eggs and butter or margarine; Grade 7—large boxes of stuffing mix and 16-oz. cans of sweet potatoes; and Grade 8—turkeys or cash donations toward supplies needed to fill up baskets. Our goal is to fill baskets for 30 families, so please be as generous as you can. We will also gratefully accept staples (salt, pepper, sugar, flour, coffee, tea, cereal, cake mix, etc.) in addition to the above-listed items. Non-perishable food can be sent in anytime; perishable items (milk, eggs, butter, rolls, etc.) should be sent in on Monday, November 19, when baskets will be packed and picked up. If you plan to donate a turkey (or two), call the office to let us know but please don’t send until Monday, November 19, as we do not have freezer space to store them. We’d like to thank you in advance for your generosity—we are always overwhelmed with our school community’s spirit of giving.
PTO: Please plan to attend our upcoming PTO meeting on Tuesday, November 13, at 7:00pm in the lower level of the parish center. Major Topics will include: Grandparents Day, Christmas shop, Skating party, 8th grade gift, Public Relations, and Pancake Breakfast. We will also continue the process of Goal Setting for the upcoming year. Remember, you must be present to have input to our goals and to vote. Baby-sitting will be available. See you there!
GRANDPARENT/SPECIAL PERSON DAY: Grandparents and special persons will be invited to join OLSH students and teachers for a special morning program on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (November 20). Please see the flier coming home with your youngest today.
CHILD PROTECTION DECREE VIDEO: If you still need to view the Child Protection Decree video, please log on to the Archdiocesan website (www.catholiccincinnati.org) to find a location where you can watch this. We do not currently have a facilitator here at OLSH.
CAMPBELL’S WINNERS: Congratulations to Ethan Gallenstein (K), Lily Fisher and Julia Gallenstein (2-B), Maddie Head, Amy Mechley and Ben Sieder (4-D), Sam Sieder (5-S), and Seth Harris (6-O).
