DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS: Remember to set your clocks BACK one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.
UNIFORM EXCHANGE: If your child needs extra uniform clothing, plan to stop in the library after all Masses this weekend (November 3 and 4) to look through the items donated to the uniform exchange. Call Mary Gordon if you have questions (755-1559).
VETERANS’ DAY PROGRAM: The students will commemorate Veterans’ Day on Thursday, November 8, with a brief ceremony after the 8:15 a.m. Mass (approximately 8:45 a.m.). We will have the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, and songs around the flagpole (weather permitting). Please join us in honoring those who have served our country.
SKATING PARTY: The first roller skating party of the school year is next Thursday, November 8, from 6 p.m. ‘til 8 p.m. at Skatetown USA in West Chester. A flier with directions and a permission slip (needed only if a parent is not accompanying his own child) is coming home today in your child’s weekly packet. This is an enjoyable evening for students, siblings, and parents. Come join in on the fun!
PENN ALERT TEST: Our test seems to have run pretty smoothly. One note—if you do not answer your phone and the alert is left on your voicemail, you do not have to press “1” as directed. The message should follow the “alert” notification.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR UPDATE: Thanks to all the families who supported our Fall Scholastic Book Fair. The totals are in—we earned over $900 in cash profit and books for our classrooms!! We also received many donations of books to the classrooms and the library. Thank you!!! A very special thanks to all the people who helped set up and tear down and to our librarians who helped make the Book Fair such a success. Congratulations to our Grand Prize winners—Sarah Murray, Luke Dorsey, and Ryan Boothe—and to the 27 poster winners.
FROM THE LIBRARY: If students read an adapted or shortened version of a book, please be aware that they may not pass the AR test in the computer, as the AR tests that we purchase are for the unabridged versions.
BUS RIDERS: If your child will be riding home on another child’s bus, we must have a note from the parent. Your child should bring the note to the office when he comes to school so that it can be signed/stamped by Ms. Fischesser. We will return the signed note to the student so he can show it to the p.m. bus driver. Please talk with your child about bringing the note to the office in the morning so that he is not showing an unsigned note to the teachers on bus duty just before he boards a bus different from the one he usually rides. NOTE: A student may not ride a bus from a school district different from the one in which he resides (i.e., a Princeton resident may not ride home on a Sycamore bus).
BRR! With cooler weather upon us, please make sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. The children go outside for recess most days, and some are coming to school without warm enough clothing to play outside in.
CANS NEEDED: If you have an empty large coffee can (5 lbs.?), please send it to school. We can use them for a variety of purposes. Make sure you include the lid.
YAC: Just a reminder that seventh grade volleyball tryouts are tonight (Friday, November 2) from 5:30 p.m. ‘til 7:30 p.m. and this Sunday, November 4, from 2 p.m. ‘til 4 p.m. If you know of anyone who would coach a fourth- or seventh-grade team, please contact Laurie Hoffman at 733-9380.
CHILD PROTECTION DECREE VIDEO: If you still need to view the Child Protection Decree video, please log on to the Archdiocesan website (www.catholiccincinnati.org) to find a location where you can watch this. We do not currently have a facilitator here at OLSH.
RECOGNITION: We’d like to congratulate 2007 OLSH graduate (and sister to sixth grader Holly and first grader Jacob) Sara Carota, who was recognized by Camp Ernst with the “Honor Camper” award. Out of the more than 3,000 campers who attended YMCA Camp Ernst this year, Sara was part of the two percent who won this prestigious award. A tradition since 1928, “Honor Camper” was created by the founder of Camp Ernst to recognize campers with outstanding character and leadership. The staff of more than 100 nominates and votes on campers who have displayed the YMCA core character values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility during each weeklong session. After the counselors’ votes are tallied, the Honor Campers are publicly recognized during the week’s closing campfire and are presented with tin cups engraved with their names. “Sara is a very influential young person who has impacted her peers through integrity and compassion in real, everyday terms,” Camp Director Jon Perry said. “We’re very proud of her.” So are we, Sara!
If you have news of an OLSH graduate, pass it on to us. We love to hear about our former students!
