ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS: All money or unsold Entertainment 2008 books must be turned in to school NO LATER THAN MONDAY, OCTOBER 15.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: The Scholastic Book Fair is next week. Students will shop the Book Fair during the week. Parents are invited to join them or stop in after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21. We will also be open during evening conference times on Tuesday, October 16, and on Thursday, October 18. Look for a letter and flyer coming home with the students today. For more information, contact Sandy Mitsch (791-4889) or Debbie Stroh (563-2887).
EARLY DISMISSAL: Please remember that we will have an early dismissal on Tuesday, October 16, so that teachers may start conferences at 2 p.m. We will not have a lunch break on that day; instead, classes will take a short break for a snack that the students may pack instead of bringing a lunch. A reminder: The following districts will provide transportation home at 1:15 p.m.—First Student, Princeton, and the Blue Ash YMCA van (to Hilltop School). Students who normally go home on Kings, Lakota, Mason, or Sycamore buses must find alternate transportation on the 16th, as these districts cannot provide rides home at that time.
CONFERENCES: Don’t forget your scheduled conferences with your children’s teachers on Tuesday, October 16, or Thursday, October 18. Your student should have brought home last Friday a blue paper with your appointment time(s). Conferences are scheduled for every 15 minutes, which includes time to move from one class to another; so your promptness would be appreciated.
“EXPRESSION”: You may have noticed on your child’s interim report a grade for “Expression”. The criteria for this grade are spelled out on the report card but not on the interim. “Expression” falls under Language Arts; your child will receive a grade based on how well he “expresses” both oral and written ideas and if he edits work appropriately, spells assigned words correctly, participates in activities/discussion, and completes assigned work. Hopefully, this explanation will help you if you need to discuss Language Arts with your child’s teacher during conferences.
FALL PICTURE DAY: Lifetouch will be at OLSH for fall pictures next Thursday, October 18. Students may be out of uniform on this day. (Please refer to page 28 of the OLSH Parent Student Handbook for appropriate dress guidelines.) Order forms were sent home in packets last Friday, October 5. If you have misplaced your order form, please send your child to the school office to pick up another one. If you’ve already sent the order to school, your child’s teacher will hold it and will give it to your child so that he can hand it to the photographer on Thursday. No child will have an individual picture taken unless he has an order form and payment on picture day.
MARKET DAY BOO BAGS: If you ordered Boo Bags for your little goblins, they will be delivered to the child you designated on Thursday, October 18 (since we don’t have school on Friday, October 19).
MORNING DROP-OFF ROUTINE: Parents—please drop off your children as soon as you round the corner by the Mary statue and let them walk up the sidewalk to the school entrance. Traffic gets backed up if everyone waits to get to the entrance before discharging passengers. Thank you.
VOLUNTEERS: Parents—please remember to sign in on the bulletin board and pick up a nametag in the school office anytime you come to volunteer. If you attend Mass on Fridays before volunteering, we ask that you make sure to come into the office to sign in before going to volunteer. We need to be able to account for all visitors in the building in the event of an emergency.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT: Congratulations to our new Student Government officers—President Jeremy Staley, Vice-President Theresa Guye, Secretary Lance Lutts, and Treasurer Zach Frey. We appreciate the campaign work done by all students who ran for office.
STOCKINGS FOR THE SOLDIERS: Last week we sent home a green flyer detailing a “Stuff the Stockings for the Soldiers” campaign we are conducting. Please continue to send in items for these stockings so that our soldiers can enjoy a little bit of Christmas this year. We will be collecting items listed on the flyer throughout the month of October. Items include: food (mints, Tic-Tacs, small candy bars, chewing gum, hot chocolate packets, etc.); games (cards, game books, pencils and pens, etc.); and personal items (small hand sanitizer, Kleenex, Chap Stick, travel-size toothpaste, shampoo, etc.). We thank you for your generosity.
PARISH DIRECTORY: Be a part of the new OLSH Parish Directory! Signup sheets to book your family’s portrait are available in the church foyer after all Masses or go to the OLSH website (www.olshschool.net) and click on the link for portrait signups. Each family that has a picture taken will receive a FREE 8x10 and a FREE directory. Contact Alison O’Neill at alisononeill@fuse.net with any questions.
YEARBOOKS: The OLSH 2006-2007 Yearbook is in! If you ordered one last spring, look for your copy coming home today. Contact Alison O’Neill with questions.
IGA LABELS FOR LEARNING: Please continue to save your IGA-brand labels/UPCs. Please put them in a Ziploc bag marked “IGA Labels” and drop them in the Campbell’s containers. We have many programs using these containers, and bagging your IGA labels/UPCs will make it easier for each chairperson to retrieve his. It is not necessary to put your child’s name on the back of the IGA labels, as these are not included in the monthly drawing. If you have questions, call Lisa Schoenberger at 733-4707.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL: Grade 7 girls’ volleyball tryouts will be on Friday, November 2, from 5:30 p.m. ‘til 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, November 4, from 2 p.m. ‘til 4 p.m. Open gym for Grade 4 will be on Monday, October 29, from 2:30 p.m. ‘til 4 p.m. Open gym for Grade 6 will be on Monday, October 29, from 4 p.m. ‘til 5:30 p.m. All other grades will have one team and will not need to be split. Also, we are in need of Grade 4 and Grade 6 coaches. If you would like to coach or know someone who would, please contact Laurie Hoffman at 733-9380.
