TERRA NOVA TESTING:  Terra Nova/In View testing will take place throughout the month of October for students in grades 2, 4, 6, and 8.  These test results are used to analyze how well our curriculum meets the needs of student learning.  Your child’s teacher will let her class know the test schedule.  A good breakfast and plenty of sleep will always give a child a good start on test days.  We ask that parents not schedule appointments during the school day, as they would interfere with this testing.  Thank you for your support.

PENANCE SERVICE:  Fr. Ron has started to hear confessions on one Tuesday each month.  Each grade will have a designated month, and there will be all-school Penance Services in December and March.  By year’s end, each grade will have received this sacrament at least once.  We will publish the date and grade in this Newsletter for your reference.

GREEN TEAM:  If you are in grades 2, 3, or 4 and you signed up to join the Green Team recycling club (with “Green Queens” Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Rohlfs), plan to come to the first meeting on Tuesday, October 2 in Mrs. Baker’s classroom.  Have fun and learn to be a good caretaker of the earth!

FALL FUNDRAISER PRODUCT DELIVERY:  A reminder that products ordered through our Fall Fundraiser will be delivered to OLSH for students to take home on Thursday, October 4.  Parents—please make arrangements to pick up your child if you think he will not be able to carry products home on the bus or as a walker.  Thank you.

JR. HIGH DANCE:  This dance will be held in the Activity Center on Friday, October 5, from 7:30 p.m. ‘til 10:30 p.m.  It is open to students in grades 7 and 8 only; students must present a signed permission slip at the door.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS:  Today your youngest child is bringing home one “Entertainment Book 2008” for you to review.  This makes it easy to take the time to look at the book at home to see where you could be saving lots of money.  THESE ARE NOT FREE BOOKS.  If you would like to keep the book, just place a check (payable to OLSH) in the amount of $20 per book in the original envelope and sent it back to school by MONDAY, OCTOBER 8.  There is no obligation to buy, AND WE ARE NOT ASKING THE STUDENTS TO SELL THESE BOOKS!  This is a fundraiser for our school library.  Profits will help puchase more A.R. tests for the students, which will give them a larger selection of required reading material.  Thank you very much for your support!  If you have any questions, you can call Laura Schaeper at 733-9442.

FALL BOOK FAIR:  The Fall Book Fair is just around the corner!  Mark your calendars for the week of October 15.  Students will shop the Book Fair during the week.  Parents are invited to join them or can visit after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21.  We will also be open during conference times on Tuesday, October 16, and Thursday, October 18.  Proceeds from this Book Fair will be used to improve the library program and to purchase teacher-requested books for classrooms.

NEW PARISH DIRECTORY:  OLSH is putting together a new parish directory.  Sign up for a convenient portrait time for your family at:

http://www.appointment-plus3.com/ap/olshschool/index.php?page=10.

All participating families will receive a free 8x10 portrait and a free OLSH directory.  Signups will also be available after all Masses the weekends of 9-29/30 through and including 10-27/28.  Make sure your family is represented—sign up for a portrait time today.  Contact Alison O’Neill at alisononeill@fuse.net with any questions.
