SPRING PICTURES: Returned spring pictures and/or payment were due this past Monday. A representative from Lifetouch has already made one pickup and will return next week for a final collection. Please send in unwanted pictures or payment for those you plan to keep by this Monday, May 12. We appreciate your cooperation.
EIGHTH GRADE PLAY: The eighth graders would like to invite you to their annual Eighth Grade Play. This year’s production is entitled “A Tribute to Dr. Seuss.” Besides our eighth graders, there will be some fresh faces—our Kindergartners will be making special appearances! Join us for either the 9 a.m. or 7 p.m. performance in the Activity Center this Wednesday, May 14.
CHILD PROTECTION SESSIONS: If you were unable to be here at OLSH when Dan Hackett facilitated the Child Protection Decree video-viewing session on April 24 and wish to volunteer in any capacity with our schoolchildren, here are some other opportunities in the area where you can attend one of these required sessions: Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m.--St. Susanna, Mason, 398-3821; Monday, May 12, 7:30 p.m.--Immaculate Heart of Mary, Beechmont, 388-4466 (you must call and register); Wednesday, May 14, 7:30 p.m.—St. Mary Church, Hyde Park, 321-1207; Tuesday, May 20, 12 noon—Archdiocese of Cincinnati, 421-3131; and Wednesday, May 21, 4 p.m.—Immaculate Heart of Mary, Beechmont, 388-4466 (again, you must call and register). You must attend a facilitated video-viewing session in order to volunteer at OLSH next year. If you are presented with a certificate after your session, please send a copy to the school office.
LIBRARY NEWS: Next Friday, May 16, will be the last day that the children may visit the library and must turn in all books on that day. Call Heather Von Lehmden at 733-3337 or email her at hvon@msn.com with questions.
MATHLETES: Nine outstanding mathematics students showed their ‘smarts’ at the St. Ignatius 5th/6th Grade Mathematics Competition. We sent three teams to compete and all three teams came away with a rating of “Excellent”! Our teams consisted of the following: (Grade 5) Faith Lynd, Matthew Schneider, Sam Sieder, Thomas Speed, Elizabeth Stevenson and Jennifer Sutor; (Grade 6) Danny Miller, Billy Rinderle and Kristin Sutor.
GREEN TEAM: The Green Team would like to thank all who have participated in recycling their newspapers and magazines by placing them in the Abitibi container. We began this program last November and, as of the beginning of April, we have collected 19,056.43 pounds of paper, or 9.52 tons! We have saved 29.71 cubic yards of space in our landfill. We have earned $114.52. We could not have accomplished this without your support!! We ask that you continue to drop off your paper this summer. Please save your household batteries as we plan to do another collection this fall. Thank you again for helping us care for our beautiful planet.
2007-2008 YEARBOOKS: A reminder that all orders for 2007-2008 Yearbooks are due no later than Monday, May 19. Email Alison O’Neill at alisononeill@fuse.net with questions. A flyer is also coming home today to students in Grade 7 about a possible OLSH Yearbook Club.
PTO FUNDRAISER: We need only an additional 19 dingy white kitchen towels to reach a total of 100 turned in, which will qualify us for a $100 bonus. Send in your dingy all-white or white-with-a-design towels to help us meet our goal! Have your child drop them off in the school office.
PTO MEETING: Please join us for our last meeting of the school year on Tuesday, May 13 in the lower level of the Parish Center. Meet our newly elected officers for next year! Our major agenda items include: recommended Bylaw changes, brain-storming sessions follow-up, Spirit Day, Yearbooks, Major Fall Fundraiser, new method for soliciting PTO volunteers, and a final review and approval of the 2008-2009 budget. Babysitting will be provided.
GRAND RAFFLE TICKET SALES CONTEST: It’s early in the contest, but we’ve already had turn-ins from 26 families—344 tickets and $1400 in sales! You’re just one good turn-in day away from the all-school Ice Cream Treat! We’re off to a great start, and we appreciate everyone’s efforts. With a total of 164 families in the school, we can easily exceed $5000 in sales from your efforts. What a great way for all of you to help support the Parish and the school. The success of the raffle ticket sales is based partly on sales within the Parish, but even more important are sales to non-parishioners. If you can sell more tickets to co-workers, neighbors, or relatives, please let us know; and we will gladly get you more tickets. Thank you very much.
FALL SPORTS SIGNUPS: Registration for Fall sports will take place after all Masses this weekend, May 10/11, and next weekend, May 17/18. Registration will take place in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center for the following sports: Golden Bears Football (grades 3 through 8); Golden Bears Cheerleading (grades 3 through 8); boys’ and girls’ soccer (grades 1 through 8 or ages 4 through 13); and girls’ basketball (grades 3 through 8). Registration forms were sent home on Friday, May 2, or are available on the OLSH website (olshschool.net) under Athletics and Programs. REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THE SCHOOL OFFICE. For more information, please contact Ken Hoffman at kdhoffman@fuse.net or by phone at 733-9380.
SPRING BAND CONCERT: We invite everyone to come to the Spring Band Concert, featuring Band Director Mrs. Becky Jones’ Beginning and Advanced Band students from OLSH and surrounding schools. It will be held at St. Margaret of York School in Loveland on Thursday, May 22, starting at 7 p.m. Email Mrs. Jones at dbjones1@fuse.net if you have questions.
CAMPBELL’S WINNERS: Congratulations to our April winners of out-of-uniform passes: Nick Gray (K); Mary White (1P); Lily Fisher, Lauren Stevenson and Bailey Vanderpool (2B); Maddie Head and Christian Kettler (4D); and Ashley Peter (7M). These are the final winners for this school year. Please continue to save Campbell’s UPC’s, General Mills Box Tops, Tyson A+ labels and IGA brand UPC’s throughout the summer! Together we are all helping our school.
FINE ARTS PROGRAM: Mark your calendars for our Fine Arts Program on Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center. These are the ‘costumes’ the children should wear for the evening: Grade 4 – Khaki pants or Bermuda shorts and a solid-colored shirt (no logos or designs); Grade 6 – Boys: White shirt that buttons in front with dark pants or shorts, Girls: Solid-colored shirt (no logos or designs) with dark pants or shorts; Grade 7 – Tie-dyed shirt and flared pants (The 70’s were the “Hippie” era so dress was loose with lots of beads, flowers in the hair and bell-bottoms. Jeans are okay if they flare at the bottom); Grade 8 – A “rock concert” look – Jeans or Bermuda shorts and shirts with appropriate logos (band shirts must be from and 80’s or 90’s group). Students in grades 4 will be given a toga to wear and students in grade 6 will be given an accessory to go with their outfit.
