COMPUTER PROBLEMS:  No—we weren’t ignoring you!  We experienced some computer problems earlier this week and were able to get them fixed on Thursday.  We apologize if you were unable to communicate with us via email.  We’re back on board, thanks to the work of our Tech Committee and Julie Gorsuch.

COSI ON WHEELS:  Thank you to all the volunteers for making the COSI on Wheels’ “Launch into Space” program such a success.  We could not have brought COSI to OLSH without your help.   A special thank you to Susie Finan for organizing a wonderful lunch for all the volunteers!

PTO PUBLISHING CENTER:  Handmade books created by OLSH students will be on display in the cafeteria this weekend after all Masses.  Funded by the PTO, each book project is coordinated with teachers to reflect a part of the curriculum.  Covers are created in Art class.  Some books are handwritten, and others are produced in Computer class.  Parent volunteers prepare the materials and assist the students in binding their books.  Please stop by and see what our kids have been creating.

CINCO de MAYO:  Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of the historic battle of 1862 between Mexico and France.  This Mexican national holiday is a symbol of that country’s pride and unity and includes great festivities.  To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Mrs. Mary Jo Berry’s Math group will be selling Baked Doritos during all lunch periods on Monday, May 5.  The cost is 40 cents per bag.  Students will sell these bags of Doritos to apply their Math skills and also to learn a little about business.

BLESSING:  Next Friday, May 9, second graders are invited to bring to school any religious items that they may have received as gifts for their First Communion.  Fr. Ron will bless these items after the 8:15 a.m. all-school Mass.  Students in other grades are invited to bring any religious items to be blessed, also.

YAC JUNIOR HIGH DANCE:  The final YAC-sponsored Junior High dance for this school year will be next Friday, May 9, from 7 p.m. ‘til 10 p.m. in the Activity Center.  It is open to all OLSH and area schools’ seventh and eighth graders.  T $7 admission price includes the cost of all soft drinks, and  DJ Beatz will provide edited dance music.  Check the OLSH website for permission forms and volunteer opportunities.  Contact Ed Riordan at eriordan@zoomtown.com for more information.

MEAL DONATIONS:  Please call Theresa Wessinger (793-4766) if you would like to prepare a meal to be taken home by Catherine Fahr for her family.  They are still working on cleaning out their fire-damaged home and have certainly appreciated all the dinners that have been sent their way so far!

EIGHTH GRADE PLAY:  The eighth graders, under the direction of Mrs. Mary Jo Eggenberger, will present a play entitled “A Tribute to Dr. Seuss” on May 14.  There will be two presentations—one at 9 a.m. and one at 7 p.m.—both in the Activity Center.  Mark the date!

FESTIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS:  Help support our Parish Festival by selling or buying the raffle tickets that were sent home last week.  All Mondays in May are turn-in days, with the last turn-in day set for Friday, May 23.  See the flyer in today’s blue folder for great prize incentives.

MARKET DAY:  We are sending out another appeal for someone to step forward to chair this very important fundraiser.  PTO receives 10% of each month’s order and uses that money to help defray the cost of transportation for our children’s field trips or puts it toward some other enrichment activity enjoyed by our students.  The time commitment is minimal for the amount of revenue this activity generates.  Please contact the school office if you’d like to help keep Market Day at OLSH.

YEARBOOK ORDERS:  You can still order a Yearbook for 2007-2008.  Please send in your order to the school office no later than Monday, May 19.  Contact Alison O’Neill at alisononeill@fuse.net for more information or call the school office if you need another order form.

FALL SPORTS SIGNUPS:  Registration for Fall sports will take place after all Masses the weekends of May 10/11 and May 17/18.  Registrations will take place in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center for the following sports:  Golden Bears Football (grades 3 through 8); Golden Bears Cheerleading (grades 3 through 8); boys’ and girls’ soccer (grades 1 through 8 or ages 4 through 13); and girls’ basketball (grades 3 through 8).  Registration forms are coming home today or are available on the OLSH website (olshschool.net) under Athletics and Programs.  REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THE SCHOOL OFFICE.  For more information, please contact Ken Hoffman at kdhoffman@fuse.net or by phone at 733-9380.

OLSH PR COMMITTEE:  Do you have great news to share about the achievements of OLSH grads?  The OLSH PTO Public Relations Committee is working to maintain the alumni bulletin board in the Junior High wing.  Please assist us in collecting news of our OLSH graduates.  Send newspaper clippings of awards, scholarships, promotions, etc., to the school office, to Ann Falci c/o Emma in 1-P, or to Yvonne France c/o Caroline in K.  We can also be reached at annfalci@yahoo.com or eyfrance@fuse.net
