RIGHT TO READ WEEK:  OLSH will celebrate Right to Read Week Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 11.  This year’s theme is “Books Draw You In!”  Illustrator Carol Schwartz will visit OLSH this Wednesday, April 9.  The students will spend some time with her to learn how to use art with literature.  Wednesday will also be Animal Dress-Up Day.  The students may dress as an animal.  Please keep the costumes simple and easy to wear.  For example, the student could wear black pants and a red shirt—put paper spots on the shirt and you could be a ladybug!  So join in the fun and let Books Draw You In!  Thanks to PTO for financing Carol Schwartz’s visit.

PTO:  Please join us for our next PTO meeting on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Parish Center.  We will nominate and vote for PTO Board officers at this meeting, and only those present can vote.  Important topics to be discussed include:  the Progressive Dinner, COSI, and the visit by illustrator Carol Schwartz.  We will also present our revised budget for the upcoming school year.  Babysitting will be provided.

SPRING PICTURES:  Spring pictures will be taken next Thursday, April 10.  Flyers went home last Friday, on which you can indicate which pose you prefer for your child. Students may be out of uniform on Picture Day.  All students in attendance on Thursday will be photographed and will have a portrait package printed; you can decide when you receive your child’s pictures whether or not you want to buy them and can fill out the order form that will come home then.  You are not obligated to buy—if you decide you don’t want them, you just return the portrait package to the school office.  We need two parents here on Picture Day to help with the flow of classes.  The photographer starts at 8 a.m. and is usually finished before noon, so we would need any volunteers to be here at 7:45 a.m. and stay until all pictures have been taken.  Please call the school office (733-5225) if you’d like to help out.  Thank you.

MEALS “TO GO”:  As many of you know, the Fahr family (Catherine—4-T) had a fire in their home on the Wednesday before Easter.  They lost most of their main floor and the whole of Catherine’s bedroom.  Fortunately, no one was injured.  They are temporarily living in Blue Ash and are just starting to clean out the house in preparation for rebuilding.  One of our staff members who experienced a house fire several years ago that displaced her family said that what she most appreciated at the time was meals.  That is one of the ways we as a school community have chosen to help out the Fahr family.  Theresa Wessinger has volunteered to organize meals sent to the family.  Please contact Theresa at 793-4766 if you’d like to help out by sending or bringing a meal into school so that Catherine can take it with her at the end of the school day when her mom picks her up.  (We can keep it refrigerated until dismissal.)

COSI VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Please see a signup sheet coming home today with your youngest that asks for help when COSI’s “Launch into Space” program comes to OLSH on April 30.  We cannot hold this event without volunteers to guide the students through the activities.  Please consider helping us out for all or part of that day.

NICA TOTAL:  Mrs. Jan Otten called this week to let us know the grand total of our school’s donations made during the Lenten season--$1216!  Mrs. Otten is grateful for everyone’s sacrifices and generosity that made this amount possible.  She will send a check to The Friends of Batahola, who will forward it to the Center of Batahola in Nicaragua founded by Mrs. Otten’s sister, Sr. Margie Navarro, and Fr. Angel Torrellas.  This Center provides financial assistance that allows needy youth and adults in Batahola to attend local schools and universities offering courses in basic literacy, computers, cosmetology, sewing, music, dance, art, and many other areas of study.  Our donation is much appreciated and will go a long way at the Center.  Thank you!

PTO FUNDRAISER:  Continue to send in those dingy kitchen towels for our J&R Research fundraiser.  We have collected 60 so far.  We’d like to reach our goal of at least 100 so that we can earn a $100 bonus.  Remember—only dingy all-white towels or white towels with a design are acceptable.  Send them to school c/o Tamara Anderson, PTO.

VARIETY SHOW:  If you didn’t remember to keep a copy of the Variety Show program and would like to have one, please contact Tamara Anderson at 733-3077.  We’ll keep extra copies until April 15 (tax day!) before discarding them.  Also, please contact Alison O’Neill (769-4853) if you’d still like to order a Variety Show keepsake t-shirt.

CAMPBELL’S WINNERS:  Congratulations to the following students who have won out-of-uniform passes for the March Campbell’s labels collection:  Joe Fortner and Sarah Murray (1-P); Ethan Nye (2-B); Amy Blum (4-D); Patrick Guye (4-T); Elizabeth Stevenson and Caroline Gallo (5-S); and Colleen Armstrong (6-O).  Winners are picked only from soup label UPCs, not Box Tops.  Please send in only eligible UPCs and write your child’s name and homeroom on the back of the label.  Call Sandy Mitsch at 791-4889 with questions.

MOELLER BASEBALL CAMP:  Students currently in grades 3 through 8 are invited to register for the Moeller Baseball Camp being offered from June 9th through the 13th at Moeller.  For more information and to download the registration form, go to www.moeller.org, click on Athletics/Band, click on Summer Camp Information, click on June 9-13 Baseball Camp.  You can also contact Rob Ebel at 617-1414 or email him at Rebel@fuse.net.

MND DANCE CLINIC:  Mount Notre Dame is offering a one-day dance clinic at the high school on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.  This clinic is open to all girls ages 7 through 18—no experience necessary!  The entrance fee ($45 ahead or $50 at the door) includes a clinic t-shirt and a pizza lunch.  For more information, contact Terri Hanlon at terrihanlon@aol.com or call her at 759-2620.
