FIRST RECONCILIATION: We congratulate Mrs. Baker’s second graders and Mrs. Gorsuch’s second-grade CCD students, who received the Sacrament of First Reconciliation this past Wednesday evening. These teachers and their students worked really hard to prepare for this important step. Now they move on to getting ready for First Communion, which will take place on Sunday, April 27. We will keep them in our prayers as they make this journey.
HOOPS FOR HEART: If you forgot to turn in your donations for Hoops for Heart (which were due Thursday, February 14), please send them in with your child on Tuesday, February 19 so that Mrs. Geers can wrap up this fundraiser. We thank all who contributed.
PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY: Sixth grader Grace Rohs bought chances during last June’s Parish Festival and won the privilege of being “Principal for a Day.” Grace will take Ms. Fischesser’s place this coming Wednesday, February 20. Her first official action is to declare that day “Crazy Sock Day”, when all students may wear wild socks with their regular uniforms.
OPEN HOUSE/REGISTRATION: Parents of incoming Kindergartners and first graders for the 2008-2009 school year are invited to join Ms. Fischesser, several faculty/staff members, and other prospective OLSH parents next Thursday, February 21, at a special Open House and Registration Night beginning at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The evening will begin with brief overviews of Kindergarten and first grade readiness indicators; parents are then invited to tour the current Kindergarten and first grade classrooms and register their children if they have decided that OLSH is the place for them. Please remember that all registrations must be accompanied by a $200 registration fee; please also bring along a copy of your child’s birth certificate and Baptismal record and any custodial papers (if applicable). Call the school office with questions (733-5225).
CONFIRMATION TIME CHANGE: The Community Room of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School is a registered voting location. Because of the primary vote being cast on Tuesday, March 4, we have changed the starting time of the Mass for Confirmation on that evening from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
LENTEN RAFFLE: The winners of last week’s raffle were: Bailey Vanderpool, 2-B (Yahtzee game and candy); Grace Kallenberg, 7-E (soccer balls); Brett Elmlinger, 4-T (dancing cow); Katie Bohlen, 7-E (warm, cozy blanket); and Sarah Murray, 1-P, Evan Curry, 6-O, Holly Daniels, 7-E, Elizabeth Guye, 7-E, and Stephen Spaeth, 7-M (out-of-uniform passes). Items to be raffled off next week are: recess with friends in the gym; an hour of basketball in the gym after school with 5 eighth graders for 3 students accompanied by one friend each (date to be announced); a Valentine basket; a large stuffed dog; and out-of-uniform passes. Buy your raffle tickets before school in Ms. Schafer’s classroom (25 cents each or five for $1). Winners of these raffle items will be announced during next Tuesday’s song practice. All money will be donated to the mission in Batahola.
PRAYER/BINGO NIGHT: Join us for our fourth annual Prayer Service Bingo Night to be held on Thursday, February 28, beginning in church at 7 p.m. All families are welcome, snacks are provided, and it’s always been a fun night. Mark your calendars!
TERRA NOVA TEST RESULTS: We are pleased to announce the results of the Terra Nova Standardized tests given to students in grades 2, 4, 6, and 8 in October of 2007. These scores are reported in national percentiles. A class score of 75th percentile indicates that the class did better than 75% of the classes nationally who took the test this year. 50th percentile is average. The number in parenthesis is the anticipated score, based on the class’s tested ability level:
GRADE READING LANGUAGE MATH TOTAL SCIENCE SOCIAL STUDIES
2 (71) 66.5 (70.5) 62.5 (71) 80 70 (69.5) 82.5 (67) 80
