TRAVELING MONSTRANCE:  A special monstrance blessed by Pope John Paul II is traveling this nation to foster adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and prayer for vocations to the Priesthood and religious life.  We are very fortunate to have this monstrance at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, February 29.  Exposition begins immediately after the 8:15 a.m. all-school Mass on that day; adoration will continue through the day and will include Benediction at 1:45 p.m.  Come and pray for vocations!  Contact Fr. Ron at the Parish Office (733-4950) if you have questions.

LENT:  Start your Lenten season with us as we participate in Mass and distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 6.  Our school’s theme this year is “Help Carry the Cross.”  We are planning many Lenten activities, including Stations of the Cross in the school hallways and in church, Shadow Stations in the Activity Center, and Living Stations.   We will once again have a weekly raffle and “Nica” jars in the homerooms to raise money to benefit the Cultural Center of Batahola Norte, Nicaragua.  Watch for details of all activities in next week’s Newsletter.

HOOPS FOR HEART:  All students will participate in the Hoops for Heart activities during gym classes all next week.  Hoops for Heart is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association with proceeds going to help people with heart disease, stroke, or other heart-related conditions.  Donation forms were sent home on January 11; if you wish to make a donation, please send it to school in the contribution envelope.  The deadline for return of the envelope is February 14.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Geers through the school office.

REGISTRATION:  A reminder to send in your currently enrolled student’s registration form to the school office as soon as possible (and no later than next Friday, February 8) in order to ensure your child a spot in his class for next year.  Beginning February 11 registration for the 2008-2009 school year will be opened up to all interested families.   Be sure to include the appropriate registration fee ($200 per child, with a cap of $400 per family) with your form.  Thank you.

BAKE SALE:  Girl Scout Cadette Troop 390 will be holding a bake sale after all Masses this Sunday, February 3, in the Community Room.  All money raised will be donated to the Cincinnati Ronald McDonald House.  Enjoy some home-baked treats and help support a good cause!

CHESS CLUB:  Chess Club has begun!  We have 13 eager fifth and sixth graders going out to the Learning Center on Thursdays during their recess time.  Interested fourth graders will begin next Thursday.  (Parents of fourth graders, please see the flyer coming home today with your child.)  Our young chess enthusiasts will face off in a tournament in mid-March.  We need a replacement for chess whiz Bobby Fisher!

BEGINNING BAND:  There will be no Beginning Band practice next Thursday, February 7.  Mrs. Jones will be attending a State Music Convention on that day.

YOUNG FAMILIES:  All OLSH Parish families with young children are invited to our Valentine’s Party on Sunday, February 10, at 5 p.m. in the lower level of the Parish Center.   The event will include an Italian dinner, cookie decorating, games, and fun for the kids.  We will also be making cards for our friends at the nursing home.  To R.S.V.P. or for more information about this and the OLSH Young Families Group, contact Lori Koetter (745-0770 or lorikoetter@fuse.net) or Ann Falci (793-4431 or annfalci@yahoo.com).
