PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  Our first “Paws for Praise” award goes to eighth grader Erica Brock for helping Mrs. Adelmann get to her car the other day in the pouring rain.  Thank you, Erica, for being an example of Christian behavior.

MARKETING HELP NEEDED:  Mrs. Adelmann has a marketing letter which she would like to send to parents of prospective first graders for the 2007-08 school year.  This letter should be written by a parent of a current second grader.  Please call or email Mrs. Adelmann (733-5225 or adelmannb@olshschool.net) if you would like to help out.

MAGAZINE DRIVE UPDATE:  The OLSH PTO congratulates parents, students, and school staff for helping us surpass our goal of $24,000 in magazine and Kids Are First sales.  Because of this, we will have an ice cream social for the entire school on September 29 after lunch.  The accounting team is still tabulating the end-of-sale prizes.  We ran out of the Secret Invisible Pens for today’s turn-in-day award; we expect them to come in next week.  Thank you for your wonderful support!

VOLUNTEERS:  We must follow Archdiocese regulations regarding volunteers.  All volunteers MUST be fingerprinted and MUST have viewed the Child Protection Decree video.  Dan Hackett will facilitate the Child Protection Decree viewing sessions at 7 p.m. on September 18, October 16, and November 13 in the OLSH church Community Room.  Fingerprinting can be done at the Holy Trinity Center in Norwood Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or at St. John’s in West Chester on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 p.m. ‘til 7 p.m., on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. ‘til 7 p.m., or on Saturdays from 9 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.

EMERGENCY DRILLS:  We will be conducting all required emergency drills (fire, tornado, Shelter in Place, and evacuation) this coming Tuesday during the school day.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS:  This art program for students in grades one through five will be available here at OLSH on Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. ‘til 3:30 p.m. beginning September 27 and running through November 15 (providing we have enough children signed up).  The cost is $72 for the eight-week session; all materials are included in that price.  Parents of first through fifth graders should check with their children for a registration form coming home today.

HIGH SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM PREP CLASS:  Parents of registered eighth graders—please note that the first class of this course will take place this coming Tuesday, September 19.

PTO SPAGHETTI DINNER:  Save the date of Sunday, October 8, for the PTO Spaghetti Dinner.  This is a fun event for visiting with friends and helping our school.  Make plans to attend!  We are looking for several people to supervise volunteers on the day of this event, to decorate the Activity Center, to supervise cleanup, and to assist the chairpersons (Julie and Mark Curry).  If you can help, please call Katie Leary (563-0370) or email her at Katie.Leary @ fuse.net.    Also, there’s still time to turn in your form if you would like to volunteer at the dinner or if you can provide baked goods.  If you’ve misplaced your volunteer form, call Julie Curry at 769-9106.

MEET FR. RON:  Over the course of the next few months, the parish would like to organize a series of small, casual gatherings to become better acquainted with Fr. Ron.  We are in the early planning stages and are currently looking for volunteers who are willing to host a small reception in their homes.  If you are interested in being a host, please call Sheila Sieder at 733-9767.

YAC WINTER SPORTS SIGNUPS:  Winter sports registrations for girls’ volleyball (grades three through eight) and boys’ basketball (grades three through high school) will take place this weekend (September 16/17) and next weekend (September 23/24) after all Masses in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center.  Registration forms are coming home today with your youngest or may be downloaded from the OLSH website (“Athletics”, “Programs”).  Any questions can be referred to Ken Hoffman at 733-9380 or emailed to him at kdhoffman@fuse.net.  NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THE SCHOOL OFFICE.

LIBRARY NEWS:  The library opened this past Monday to all classes.  A big “thanks” to Gina Vonderhaar for shopping and picking up the carpet for the library, and another “thanks” to Sue Kettler for making an adorable table skirt and valance.  Also a huge “thank you” to Gina and Sue and to Alison O’Neill, Debbie Stroh, Julie Gorsuch, and Kathy Hackett for helping clean the library.  We have really changed the look of it—stop in and see it sometime!  --Heather Von Lehmden

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS:  Our August out-of-uniform pass winners are:  Kristen Elmlinger, Julia Gallenstein, Seth Harris, Christy Kennedy, Kirsten Lucas, Megan Mitsch, Caleb Von Lehmden, and Joey Walsh.  Thanks for participating, and don’t forget to start sending in the UPCs instead of the front labels.  Thanks!

CUB SCOUTS:  Attention, all first through fifth grade boys!  Cub Scouts do all kinds of fun things—they go fishing, camping, hiking, make fun things, and even have their own Pinewood Derby car race.  Many boys at OLSH are already involved in the fun!  Please attend the signup meeting with your parents on Thursday, September 21, at 7 p.m. at Hilltop Elementary School.  See you there!
