PENN Alert: There was a glitch with our notification system test scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. After working with PENN Alert, the test message went through at 1:30. We appreciate parents who called to report that they received the message, received the school’s caller I.D, or received only a garbled message. Some notifications sent to cell phone users were clear. Hopefully, the 6 p.m. test on Thursday went better. We are going to continue to work with PENN Alert to solve these problems before the snow and ice hit next winter!!! Thank you for your patience.
EARLY DISMISSALS: We will have early dismissal on Thursday, May 31 (Spirit Day), at 1:30 p.m. and on Friday, June 1 (last day of school) at 10:30 a.m. The following school districts WILL provide transportation home on THURSDAY: First Student, Princeton, and Sycamore. (Please note that Sycamore will be at OLSH at 1:45 p.m.). The following school districts WILL provide transportation home on FRIDAY at 10:30 a.m.: First Student, Mason, Princeton, and Sycamore. Please make alternate plans for transportation home if your child’s school district is not listed here for either or both of these days.
SAFETY FIRST: In these last few days of school, please keep our children’s safety in mind. Do not pass cars that are lined up to drop off students in the morning. Students exit from both sides of vehicles.
PTO PARENT BREAKFAST: Plan to join your friends immediately following the final all-school Mass and moving-up ceremony on Friday, June 1, in the Community Room for a breakfast hosted by PTO. All parents, their young children not yet in school, and our current eighth graders who return that day to attend the Mass are invited to mingle until school is dismissed at 10:30 a.m. It’s a great way to meet new families and say good-bye for the summer to your OLSH family!
SUPPLY LIST: We are sending home today with your youngest a list of school supplies for each grade for next year in case you have opted not to purchase the pre-packaged school supplies. Students should come to school on the first day equipped with all supplies listed. Hopefully, you can take advantage of some school supply sales over the summer!
SUMMER READOLOGY “BUSY AS BEES” PROGRAMS: Be sure to sign up for these very popular programs open to students who will be in Kindergarten through fourth grade next fall. Reservations forms were sent home last week; call the school office if you did not receive one and are interested in signing up.
PRE-ORDERED SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Please note that all pre-ordered packaged school supplies can be picked up after all Masses the weekend of August 11/12.
“WELCOME TO SCHOOL” PACKETS: These packets, filled with information along with forms that we need you to complete and return to us, will be available after all Masses the weekends of August 4/5 and 11/12. Completed forms from these packets may be returned on the weekend of August 18/19, again after all Masses. Please call the school office after August 2 if you will be unable to pick up this packet or drop off completed forms on the dates listed so we can make other arrangements. All forms must be returned prior to our first day of school, August 22, so that we have your emergency information on file in the office as we start the new year.
MAGAZINES: Please save your magazine subscriptions for our PTO Fall Fundraiser to be held from August 30 through September 13, 2007. Can’t wait ‘til fall? You can order and renew magazine subscriptions online year ‘round, with 40% of the purchase price going to support our school. Go to our school’s website and click on the following: fundraising, magazine orders, magazine store, shop online, then type in our school code (W03315), enter the student’s name, start shopping. Items purchased now under a student’s name will count toward end-of-sale prizes for our PTO Fall Fundraiser 2007. (Turn-in day prizes during the sale in the fall must be submitted that day.) If you have questions, email Pam Kennedy at pendres@cinci.rr.com or call Pam at 984-4597. Thanks for your continued support.
SUMMER TUTORING: Would your child benefit from summer tutoring? Whether to master concepts not fully understood during the school year or to maintain skills for the next school year, tutoring can be valuable time spent. Mrs. Mary Jo Eggenberger, current OLSH fifth grade teacher, will again be offering tutoring sessions this summer at OLSH. If you are interested in tutoring for your child, please feel free to leave a message for her at the school office (733-5225) or email her at eggenbergerm@olshschool.net. She will be happy to respond to your request.
OTHER TUTORING HELP AVAILABLE: Mrs. Marlene O’Brien, former first grade teacher at OLSH, is also offering tutoring. Please call Mrs. O’Brien at 791-5199 if you would like to have her tutor your child this summer.
SUMMER WORK: Just a reminder that we are encouraging your children to use the Summer Bridge Activity Books appropriate to their current/upcoming grade level to keep their skills sharp over this summer. Remember that we are offering an “incentive” to all students who complete this summer work.
FESTIVAL HELP NEEDED: The Festival Bakery Booth is in need of yummy, tempting baked goods for our pure-profit booth. Bring your baked creations during setup the morning of Friday, June 22, or before shifts begin on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Contact Ann Falci at 793-4431 with questions or for suggestions on what to bring. The Bid ‘N Buy Booth is looking for some artistic/creative people to paint and decorate some wood items. Booth chair Julie Gorsuch hopes to have one decorated item per grade, signed by all the students. Email her at gorsuch_j@olshschool.net. We can store any items you may have for the Bid ‘N Buy Booth in the school library. Contact Julie for more info.
YAC NEWS: The new OLSH fall pre-school U-6 Candy Soccer League needs more players! To register, contact Bill Moulliet at bmoulliet@fuse.net or Ed Riordan at eriordan@zoomtown.com.
SUMMER CAMP: The Blue Ash Recreation Center is offering Laffalot Summer Camps. Sign up now for the “girls only” camps being offered the weeks of June 11 and 18 and for the “boys only” camp that is being offered the week of June 25. For more information, visit www.laffalotcamps.com.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL: Please arrange to come in to the school office between now and Friday, June 1, to pick up any medications your child may have at school. We will not send meds home with students; any medication left here after June 1 will be disposed of. Contact the school office (733-5225) if you are unsure if your child has medicine here.
THERE WILL BE NO HOT LUNCH THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL.
ALL STUDENTS MUST PACK A COLD LUNCH FOR TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY
(AND FOR THURSDAY, IF YOU DID NOT ORDER PIZZA AND A DRINK FOR SPIRIT DAY).
