PAUSE (PAWS) FOR PRAISE:  Mrs. Raine would like to recognize Grace Kallenberg and Katie Bohlen for huge help in cleaning up and filing music Tuesday during their recess.  She also thanks Daniel Gates for assembling Listening CD’s for the Junior High songs for Fine Arts Day program.  Mrs. O’Neill would like to thank Molly Ernstes and Olivia Peters for helping set up on Tuesday evening for COSI on Wheels.  Mrs. Adelmann nominates Paige Fisher for kindly offering to throw away the paper and box she was carrying.  Finally, Mrs. Guye thanks Paige Brown, Libby Hildebrandt, Emily Janszen, Kylie Kroeger and Andrew Riordan for helping with Fr. Ron’s “Thank You” card.

NEW PARENT MEETING:  We will have a meeting for parents of new incoming students on Monday, May 7, in our cafeteria.  From 6:30 p.m. ‘til 7 p.m., representatives from Educational Outfitters, OLSH Spiritwear and our uniform exchange programs will be available.  Our general meeting will begin at 7 p.m.  At 7:30 p.m., parents of incoming kindergarteners and first graders will meet with Mrs. Cromer and Mrs. Pelzel in their classrooms; parents of incoming students in all other grades will remain in the cafeteria for those grade-level meetings.

PARENT TEACHER REQUESTS:  According to the OLSH Parent/Student Handbook, page 29, the date to request a teacher for the 2007-08 school year, for grades with two teachers, was May 1st.  Any requests received now may not be able to be honored.

COSI ON WHEELS:  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the COSI on Wheels program this week a great success.  The program was fun and educational and enjoyed by all of our students.  Thank you also to Alison O’Neill for chairing this event.

MARKET DAY:  It’s not too late to order for our May sale!  You may send your order form through school until Thursday, May 10 or order online (www.marketday.com) until noon, Friday, May 11.  We finally have chairpersons for the 2007-08 school year!  Mrs. Adelmann will be taking over the paperwork portion and Mrs. High and Mrs. Schworer will handle the sale days.  A great BIG thank you is owed to these staff members who don’t want us to lose this valuable fundraiser for our school.

FLOWER SALE:  Our annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale will take place next Friday, May 11.  Please see the flyer coming home today with your child for details.

SUMMERFEST MAJOR AWARD RAFFLE:  Please support OUR parish festival by selling a few raffle tickets.  Look for a flyer coming home today with all students.  If every student sells $20 worth of tickets, we could raise over $4000!!!

SUMMERFEST BASKET BOOTH:  Also coming home today is request for items for our Summerfest’s Basket Booth.  Each class has been asked to bring in themed items.  See flyer for more details.

LIBRARY NOTES:  Next week will be the last week that students may check books out of the library.  Please make sure your children are current with regard to the library (all books returned and fines paid).

YAC JR. HIGH DANCE:  This is the last Dance for this school year and will be held next Friday, May 11, from 7 p.m. ‘til 10 p.m.   The cost is $7 (which includes soft drinks), and the dance is open to all seventh and eighth grade students.  Visit the OLSH website (www.olshschool.net) for the permission form and details.  Click on Athletics, then Programs, then Jr. High Dances to download the form.  We still need sixth grade parent volunteers (six) for dance floor chaperones and seventh and eighth grade parent volunteers (six to eight) for set-up, check-in, concessions, and outside security and cleanup after the dance.  This is an organized, safe, fun, social event for our young 7th & 8th grade students. Please help continue our ability to put these on during the school year! Please contact Ed Riordan eriordan@zoomtown.com or Dan Hackett dhackett@cinci.rr.com if you can help.  Even a half shift (1-1/2 hours) will be a great help!

HIGH SCHOOL DECISIONS:  Parents of current 8th graders—please call the school office or email schoenbergerl@olshschool.net advising us about your choice of high school for your eighth grader.  We would appreciate this information as soon as possible.  If you’ve already responded, thank you.

2007-08 SCHOOL DIRECTORIES:  We are planning to print the directory for next school year over the summer.  Please look for the flyer/order form coming home today and note the due date of May 21.  We appreciate your cooperation in our effort to make this directory available to you as soon as possible in the coming school year.

SUMMER WORK FOR STUDENTS:  Grades 2-7 will have the OPTION of purchasing the book Summer Bridge Activity Book.  This book is available at School Time, Joseph Beth Booksellers, Barnes and Noble, Holcomb’s KnowPlace or online.  All students will be bringing home a flyer with coupon from Holcomb’s today.  While away from school, this series is the original summer learning program.  Summer Bridge consists of daily activities in reading, writing, mathematics and language arts with bonus activities in science and geography.  When you purchase a book, be sure to purchase the book geared to the grade your child was in this year and the grade he/she will be entering in August.  For example:  If your child was in 6th grade and going into 7th grade, purchase the Summer Bridge Activities for Sixth-Seventh.  You will find that the activities review as well as preview the next grade.  We encourage you to keep your children mentally active to maintain and enhance scholastic skills while away from school.

Mrs. Baker, grade 2 teacher, will be sending home a packet of work as she uses the summer work at the beginning of the new school year.  This will be given to the present first grade students.

OLSH YAC FALL SPORTS REGISTRATION:  Registrations will take place after all Masses on May 5/6 and May 12/13 in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center for the following sports (all grades listed are for 2007-08):  boys’ football, grades 3-8; girls’ basketball, grades 3-8; girls’ cheerleading, grades 3-8; and soccer for current kindergarten-7th grade (ages 4 through 13).  The cost is $35 per sport and $105 for football (if needed, jerseys are an additional $30).  There is a late fee assessed for late registrations (after May 13).  NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH SCHOOL.  Questions?  Contact Ken Hoffman at 733-9380 or via email at kdhoffman@fuse.net.
