FIRST COMMUNION:  We congratulate our second graders and those in CCD who will make their First Communion this Sunday.  Our second grade teacher, Mrs. Baker, CCD instructor Mrs. Gorsuch, and the students have worked hard to get ready for this big day.  We want them to know that they will be in our prayers as they receive this sacrament on Sunday.  (Please note that the second graders will not be in school on Monday, April 30.)

TUITION RATES 2007-2008:  Finance Committee and Parish Council met at the end of March and reached an agreement on tuition amounts for next school year.  The in-parish tuition rates will be:  one child--$2425; two children--$4425; three children--$6250; four children--$8075; five children--$9900.  Out-of-parish tuition will be $4296 per child.  As usual, the first half of the school year’s tuition is due August 1, 2007; the second half will be due February 1, 2008.  Your registration fee will be deducted from your tuition total.

PAUSE (PAWS) FOR PRAISE:  Mrs. Adelmann would like to recognize first grader Kenny Kuhl for washing some windows for her.  Mrs. Raine would like to thank eighth graders Megan Fahr and Erica Brock for their help in clearing the mounds of wall hangings in the Music Room.  Mrs. Peter nominates sixth grader Elyse Spraul for running the mile in gym class, even though she had already reached her goal, so that she could help and encourage a friend to reach her goal (which her friend did for the first time ever!).  Finally, thank you to fifth grader Colleen Armstrong and third grader Amy Blum who, along with a friend, loaded 20 ten-pound rocks from a creek to a babysitter’s house (the first ten by hand and the second ten by wheelbarrow!).  The babysitter paid the girls, who turned around and donated $20 to OLSH.  The money was sent to the Parish Center, where it was deposited in the Tuition Assistance Fund.  We thank all these students for their Christian acts, and we also appreciate all students who perform “little acts of kindness” every day without recognition.

MAY CROWNING:  Plan to be with us as we honor Mary at May Crowning next Friday, May 4, immediately following the 8:15 a.m. all-school Mass.  Weather permitting, we will process outside to crown the statue of Mary and sing songs in her honor.   It has been tradition at OLSH that eighth graders choose a girl from their class who most exemplifies Jesus’ Mother to crown Mary.  This year, eighth grader Rachel Grein has earned this honor; her court will consist of fellow eighth grader Kaley Zeuch and Rachel’s first grade “buddy”, Mary Angela Guye.  Congratulations to these girls!  We hope you are able to join with us in this ceremony of adoration for our Blessed Mother.  (Reminder—if you did not order a flower for May Crowning, remember to bring one in on Friday.  If you did order a flower, we will have one here for you.)

SUMMER TUTORING:  Would your child benefit from summer tutoring?  Whether to master concepts not fully understood during the school year or to maintain skills for the next school year, tutoring can be valuable time spent.  Mrs. Mary Jo Eggenberger, current OLSH fifth grade teacher, will again be offering tutoring sessions this summer at OLSH.  If you are interested in tutoring for your child, please feel free to leave a message for her at the school office (733-5225) or email her at eggenbergerm@olshschool.net.  She will be happy to respond to your request.

FESTIVAL HELP NEEDED:  If you are interested in helping with the shopping and creation of baskets for this year’s Basket Booth at the OLSH Summer Festival, we will be getting together this Monday, April 30.  Please contact Sue Kettler if you would like to partake in the crazy world of baskets.  Call her at 769-4583 or email her at kettlerone@cinci.rr.com.

MOELLER VOLLEYBALL GRADE SCHOOL NIGHT:  This event will take place on Tuesday, May 8, as Moeller meets Elder beginning at 7 p.m. in the Moeller gym.  We offer free admission to all grade school students.  Call Julie Hopkins at 398-5658 or Jenny Owens at 573-9130 if you have questions.

READING CLEANUP DAY:  Don’t forget that this Saturday, April 28, is the City of Reading Litter Cleanup Day.  Contact Carol Bullock-Carpenter at 733-4857 for additional information.
