MONTE CARLO:  Plan to attend the Men’s Club Monte Carlo night this Saturday from 7 p.m. ‘til midnight in the Activity Center.  All proceeds from this night directly benefit OLSH’s Computer Fund.

OPEN HOUSE:  We invite all of our school families to visit OLSH this Sunday, February 4, for our Open House and the close of Catholic Schools Week.  Teachers would love to see you in their classrooms.  Be sure to tell all your friends and neighbors, also—spread the news about Reading’s best-kept secret!

RETIREMENT CELEBRATION FOR MS. WILLET:  There will be a special Mass celebrated at 1 p.m. this Sunday in honor of Ms. Leslie Willet, who has dedicated her entire teaching career (40 years!) to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School.  A reception will follow in the Community Room.

NO SCHOOL ON FEBRUARY 5:  Due to our Open House and Ms. Willet’s retirement celebration on February 4, we will not have school on Monday, February 5.  This day off will also give Mr. Moeggenberg an opportunity to check into the numerous power outages that have been occurring.

NAMETAGS:  All students are expected to wear their nametags every day.  From now on, any lost or damaged nametags will be replaced with the magnetic style at a cost of $6 each.  Please have your child come to the office with payment when he needs to order.  Thank you.

JUNIOR HIGH UNIFORMS:  Mike Hunter from Educational Outfitters stopped in last week and mentioned that a number of parents returned uniforms for seventh and eighth graders.  The reason given for the return was that we were not enforcing the uniform rules.  We never stop enforcing the uniform policy; but if it is a pants issue (and I believe that it is), when do parents help the school by following the policy?  Pants for seventh–grade girls and new pants for eighth- grade girls were to be bought at Educational Outfitters.  Our small blue and white tag in the back identifies the pants as uniform.  Please send the message to your daughters that you follow the rules.

CALLING ALL OUT-OF-TOWNERS!  Please help the fourth graders learn about the fifty states.  We would love to receive postcards from family members, relatives, friends, neighbors, and business acquaintances who are in the other forty-nine states.  As we receive postcards, we will record it on our map.  Our goal will be to receive postcards from all the states before June 5.  Please help us achieve our goal.  Sincerely, Mrs. Tebbe

PTO BOARD NOMINATIONS:  PTO is accepting nominations for Board positions to serve next school year.  Please forward your nomination to Alison O’Neill at alisononeill@fuse.net by February 15.  The PTO President and Treasurer will be stepping down at the end of the year.  Nominations are being accepted for all Board positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer).

PRODUCT SURVEY:  Thank you to all who signed up to participate in the P&G product survey.  Unfortunately, we had fewer than 40 people sign up; and we needed 75.  PTO and OLSH truly appreciate your commitment to volunteerism and hope you will be able to help us out in the future.

A YAC “THANK YOU”:  YAC would like to thank John Beckstedt for a great volleyball tournament and Tom Miller for a great basketball tournament.  Once again, parents and coaches from other parishes complimented us on the quality of our facility and of our tournament.  Special thanks to all of the parent volunteers for making both tournaments very successful—we could not do it without you!

IT’S FLU SEASON!  We’ve seen a rise in absences this past week.  To help avoid it, please encourage good general hygiene and handwashing habits in your children.  Please keep your child home if he has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher.  He may return to school only after he has been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.  The following article may help you determine whether what your child has is a cold or the flu…
