A LITTLE “GUYE”:  Congratulations to Mrs. Guye and her family, who welcomed Vincent Joseph into the world on Wednesday, November 15, at 3:04 a.m.  He weighed 8 lbs. 8 ozs.,  was 20” long, and has dark hair, eyes, and complexion.  We wish Mrs. Guye all the best while she is on maternity leave.  Mrs. Nancy Sutor is 6-G’s long-term sub until Mrs. Guye’s return.

PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  Mrs. High would like to nominate first grader Julia Gallenstein for her excellent manners.  Mrs. Pelzel recognizes eighth grader Kyle Mahoney for helping Will Flavin when Will’s backpack dumped all over the floor as the bus lines were leaving.  There was another student who helped Will and Kyle; although we don’t know who you are, we’re sure you do; and you know you did the right thing at that moment.  We also thank eighth grader Matt Pryse for helping Ryan Oltorik while he’s been on crutches.  We’re sure there are moments like these that happen every day but go unnoticed.  The mark of true character is how we act when we think no one is watching.  Keep it up!

BOOK FAIR:  The Scholastic Fall Book Fair will be open after all Masses this Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19, in the library.  Stop in and check out the holiday books, A.R. books, cookbooks, and much more!  Proceeds from this Fair will be used to purchase A.R. tests for books we have in the school library and to purchase books teachers have requested for their classroom libraries.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY:  Lifetouch will be at OLSH this Monday, November 20, to retake any Fall pictures that were not satisfactory.  If your child is having his picture retaken, please be sure to send with him the original package printed from the picture taken on October 12.  Your children are also bringing home today Lifetouch “Smile Safe Kids” I.D. cards for your use.

PTO MEETING:  Please join us for our next Board meeting on Monday, November 20, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Parish Center.  Our guest speaker will be Pat Finan, the Chair of the Finance Committee.  Our agenda topics include:  the upcoming Open House, COSI-on-Wheels, Grandparents’/Special Persons’ Day, Christmas Shop, and a potential new fundraiser at Run Jump N Play.  Remember, only members present can influence the outcome and vote on these topics.

GRANDPARENTS’/SPECIAL PERSONS’ DAY:  We look forward to sharing part of our day with our grandparents and special persons on Tuesday, November 21.   The day will start with Mass at 8:15 a.m. in the Activity Center.  Donuts, coffee, and orange juice will be served after Mass in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center with entertainment by students in the primary grades.  Afterwards, grandparents and special persons may meet up with their “special students” in the classrooms until 10:45 a.m.  Don’t forget your cameras!

OPEN HOUSE:  With the impending close of Ss. Peter and Paul School, we have decided to host a special Open House for those families interested in checking out OLSH.  This Open House will be held on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to act as tour guides and hosts to visiting prospective families.  If you are able to help, please call Sheila Sieder (733-9767).  We will still have our regularly scheduled Open House on Sunday, February 4 (at the close of Catholic Schools Week).

If any parents have copies of their children’s books made in our Publishing Center, we’d like to use them in a display during the November 28th Open House.  Please send them in to the school office; they will be returned after the 28th.  Thank you.

MARKET DAY:  Congratulations to homeroom 8R for winning the pie party (which they will enjoy on Tuesday, November 21).  They sold an amazing 51 pies!!  Overall, our school sold 330 pies—the most ever!  Thank you to all who bought and sold pies and also to the volunteers who helped fill and double-check the orders--your help was appreciated.  Our profit for November was approximately $1260—we earned $2.75 for each pie!  As a reward for all your work, all students may be OUT OF UNIFORM this Monday, November 20.   We couldn’t have done it without you--congratulations and thank you!  December order forms are coming home today with your youngest.  If you spend at least $25 next month, you will have a chance to win a $25 Market Day gift certificate.

ProKids SERVICE PROJECT:  Continue to send in items for teenagers (boys and girls) served by ProKids.  We are collecting donations through December 3.

SANTA SHOP:  Please also continue to send in items for our Santa Shop to be held on Thursday and Friday, December 7 and 8.  Donations can be sent in with your children.

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS:  Our October winners for out-of-uniform passes are:  Dakota Handorf and Luke Mitsch (2-B); Kirsten Lucas, Sam Miller, and Ben Sieder (3-D); Sam Sieder (4-T); Danny Miller (5-E); and Caleb Von Lehmden (5-S).  Thank you for participating, and please keep sending in your UPCs!

PHOTO/NAME RELEASES:  Parents—please make sure you look for, fill out, and return to the school office the photo and name release form which your child is bringing home today.  Thank you.

WIN TUITION MONEY!  The Archdiocese is sponsoring a marketing campaign for the area’s Catholic schools.  Visit www.valuesforalifetime.com/referral/ for details about this referral program giveaway that offers you the opportunity to win free tuition to a Catholic elementary or high school of your choice.

A SAFETY ISSUE:  A resident of Siebenthaler Avenue has noticed an increase in the number of cars speeding up and down the street.  Please remember that this is a school area and that all of our students must use Siebenthaler to get to and from school.  There is at least one blind spot in both directions and cars parked along the road.  Take a minute to consider the consequences of excessive speed—care about our kids!
