PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE: Several students have been nominated for a
“Paws for Praise” award. Mr. Moeggenberg recognizes second graders Chase Merritt and
Leighton Vaske for helping him out in the cafeteria,
and several cafeteria ladies would like to thank eighth grader Kelly Davidson
for stopping to clean up a mess on the cafeteria floor without being asked and
after several other students had already walked past it. Kudos to these students who
show true Christian behavior.
8TH GRADE T-SHIRT DESIGNS: Eighth graders – there’s still time to enter
your t-shirt design!! We currently only
have one design!! You have until Monday,
November 6 to turn your design in to the office. Also coming home today is an order form for
sizing for your t-shirt. If you have
questions, please contact Mrs. Carota at 769-4582.
CONFERENCE APPOINTMENTS: Parent-teacher conferences will take place
after school on Thursday, November 9 and again on November 15. You should have received a sign-up form
included with your child’s report card sent home on Thursday, November 2. These requests for conferences must be
returned to the school office NO LATER THAN MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6. You will be notified of your conference date
and time on Wednesday, November 8.
SCHOOL PICTURES:
Lifetouch Fall photos are coming home today
with your children. If you are happy
with your child’s pictures and would like to order additional prints, please
see the information included in the portrait package. If your child was absent on October 12
(Picture Day) or if you are not happy with his pictures, retake day is Monday,
November 20. Please be sure to return
the original portrait package when your child has his picture retaken on this
day.
VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS/OPEN GYM: Tryouts for eighth grade will be on Saturday,
November 4, from
PENNIES FOR PIES: We are still collecting pennies (and other
forms of currency) to see how many pies we will be able to purchase for our
Thanksgiving Food Drive. The container
is in the school entrance every morning during arrival. Thank you for your generosity!!
ELECTION DAY:
Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day and the students are invited to
wear red, white or blue with their uniform to emphasize the importance
of voting. Students may wear shirts,
sweatshirts, socks, pins, etc., to show their patriotism. Students will also be voting in the “Kids
Voting” program, which will take place online in the computer lab.
GRANDPARENT/SPECIAL PERSON DAY: Grandparents
and special persons will be invited to join OLSH students and teachers for a
special morning program on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (November
21). Please see the flier coming home
with your youngest today.
CHILD PROTECTION DECREE SESSION: Due to a scheduling conflict, Dan Hackett
will facilitate the Child Protection Decree viewing session at
SPIRITWEAR:
Please look for Spiritwear order forms coming home today with your
youngest. All orders (with payment) are
due by next Thursday, November 9.
Make your check payable to “OLSH YAC” and send orders to the office in
an envelope marked “Spiritwear”. Items
will be delivered to your child’s homeroom before the Christmas break. Special note:
If you are ordering Spiritwear items as Christmas gifts and do not want
them sent home with your child, please write “CHRISTMAS GIFT” across the top of
your order form. I will call you when
the order arrives to make arrangements for pickup.
We apologize for the delay but Spiritwear items ordered in
mid-September are expected to arrive shortly.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: Scholastic Book Fair will take place the week
of November 12. Students will shop the
Book Fair during their regular library times.
Parents are invited to join them then or after Masses on Saturday and Sunday,
November 11/12 and November 18/19, and during evening conference times on
Wednesday, November 15. Proceeds from
this Book Fair will be used to purchase teacher-requested books for classrooms
and to purchase A.R. tests for books we currently have in the library.
VETERANS’ DAY MUSIC PROGRAM: Music teacher Mrs. Cheryl Raine
has been working with the fifth graders on some patriotic music in preparation
for a program they will present to the parish and the school on Tuesday,
November 14, immediately following the 8:15 a.m. Mass. Please join them in the Community Room for
this musical salute to our veterans!
SANTA SHOP:
Believe it or not, the holiday season is fast approaching; and we are
beginning to prepare for OLSH’s Santa Shop.
SERVICE PROJECTS: Don’t
forget to send in your items for the two service projects in which we are
participating during this holiday season…
We are carrying on the tradition of filling Thanksgiving
baskets for needy families in our community.
We have been asked to supply enough food to fill 20 baskets. We do still need turkeys in addition to the
food items requested from each homeroom.
Please call the school office if you plan to donate a turkey or if you
need to know what food item your child’s homeroom has been assigned. Non-perishables can be sent in at any time;
perishables (bread, butter, milk, eggs, etc.) can be brought/sent in on Friday,
November 17, or on Monday, November 20.
Frozen turkeys can be sent in on Monday, November 20 by
We are accepting donations for teens served by ProKids anytime from now up until December 3. These items can be sent in with your child
and deposited in the big red box at the school entrance. Your youngest should have brought home a
flier last Friday with suggested items to donate; again, you can contact the
school office if you need a “refresher”.
