PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  Several students have been nominated for a “Paws for Praise” award.   Mr. Moeggenberg recognizes second graders Chase Merritt and Leighton Vaske for helping him out in the cafeteria, and several cafeteria ladies would like to thank eighth grader Kelly Davidson for stopping to clean up a mess on the cafeteria floor without being asked and after several other students had already walked past it.  Kudos to these students who show true Christian behavior.

8TH GRADE T-SHIRT DESIGNS:  Eighth graders – there’s still time to enter your t-shirt design!!  We currently only have one design!!  You have until Monday, November 6 to turn your design in to the office.  Also coming home today is an order form for sizing for your t-shirt.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Carota at 769-4582.

CONFERENCE APPOINTMENTS:  Parent-teacher conferences will take place after school on Thursday, November 9 and again on November 15.  You should have received a sign-up form included with your child’s report card sent home on Thursday, November 2.  These requests for conferences must be returned to the school office NO LATER THAN MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6.  You will be notified of your conference date and time on Wednesday, November 8.

SCHOOL PICTURES:  Lifetouch Fall photos are coming home today with your children.  If you are happy with your child’s pictures and would like to order additional prints, please see the information included in the portrait package.  If your child was absent on October 12 (Picture Day) or if you are not happy with his pictures, retake day is Monday, November 20.  Please be sure to return the original portrait package when your child has his picture retaken on this day.

ELECTION DAY:  Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day and the students are invited to wear red, white or blue with their uniform to emphasize the importance of voting.  Students may wear shirts, sweatshirts, socks, pins, etc., to show their patriotism.  Students will also be voting in the “Kids Voting” program, which will take place online in the computer lab.

GRANDPARENT/SPECIAL PERSON DAY:  Grandparents and special persons will be invited to join OLSH students and teachers for a special morning program on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (November 21).  Please see the flier coming home with your youngest today.

CHILD PROTECTION DECREE SESSION:  Due to a scheduling conflict, Dan Hackett will facilitate the Child Protection Decree viewing session at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 16 (not November 13 as previously stated) in the OLSH Church Community Room.    If you also require fingerprinting, this may be done at the Holy Trinity Center in Norwood Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. or at St. John’s in West Chester on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 p.m. ‘til 7 p.m., on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. ‘til 7 p.m., or on Saturdays from 9 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.

We apologize for the delay but Spiritwear items ordered in mid-September are expected to arrive shortly.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  Scholastic Book Fair will take place the week of November 12.  Students will shop the Book Fair during their regular library times.  Parents are invited to join them then or after Masses on Saturday and Sunday, November 11/12 and November 18/19, and during evening conference times on Wednesday, November 15.  Proceeds from this Book Fair will be used to purchase teacher-requested books for classrooms and to purchase A.R. tests for books we currently have in the library.

VETERANS’ DAY MUSIC PROGRAM:  Music teacher Mrs. Cheryl Raine has been working with the fifth graders on some patriotic music in preparation for a program they will present to the parish and the school on Tuesday, November 14, immediately following the 8:15 a.m. Mass.  Please join them in the Community Room for this musical salute to our veterans!

SANTA SHOP:  Believe it or not, the holiday season is fast approaching; and we are beginning to prepare for OLSH’s Santa Shop.  Sale dates will be Thursday, December 7, and Friday, December 8.  The Santa Shop offers our children the opportunity to purchase inexpensive holiday gifts for their family and friends.  All of the children look forward to this event each year.  Donations of holiday gift items or handcrafted treasures will truly be appreciated.  Individually wrapped Christmas candy is always a big hit!  If you are able to donate items, please drop them off in the school office marked “Santa Shop Donations”.  Thank you.

SERVICE PROJECTS:  Don’t forget to send in your items for the two service projects in which we are participating during this holiday season…

We are carrying on the tradition of filling Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in our community.  We have been asked to supply enough food to fill 20 baskets.  We do still need turkeys in addition to the food items requested from each homeroom.  Please call the school office if you plan to donate a turkey or if you need to know what food item your child’s homeroom has been assigned.  Non-perishables can be sent in at any time; perishables (bread, butter, milk, eggs, etc.) can be brought/sent in on Friday, November 17, or on Monday, November 20.  Frozen turkeys can be sent in on Monday, November 20 by 9 a.m.  Baskets will be assembled and picked up after school on Monday, November 20.

We are accepting donations for teens served by ProKids anytime from now up until December 3.  These items can be sent in with your child and deposited in the big red box at the school entrance.  Your youngest should have brought home a flier last Friday with suggested items to donate; again, you can contact the school office if you need a “refresher”.
