SPAGHETTI DINNER:  Join us on Sunday, October 8, for OLSH PTO’s 24th Annual Spaghetti Dinner.  The dinner will be served between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Activity Center and will include spaghetti and meatballs or pizza, salad or applesauce, garlic bread, a drink, and a dessert.  Prices are:  $5 for adults and children age 13 or older; $4.50 for seniors and children ages 6 to 12 years; and $2.50 for children ages 3 to 5.  (Children 2 years old and younger are free.)  Carryout is available by calling 733-0614.  Call Julie or Mark Curry at 769-9106 with questions or to volunteer.  It’s always a great time, and the food is delicious!

ENTERTAINMENT 2007 BOOKS:  All checks or books must be turned in to school NO LATER THAN THIS MONDAY, OCTOBER 9!

PTO FALL MAJOR FUNDRAISER PRIZE DISTRIBUTION:  The Kids Are First products and major prizes from the PTO Fall Major Fundraiser were distributed after school on Thursday, October 5.  There are several prizes that were not delivered on that day.  If your child did not receive a prize that he earned, he will get it by next Thursday, October 12.  We thank our families for all their hard work and apologize for the inconvenience in getting your child’s prizes to him.

SKATING PARTY:  Want to have a howlin’ good time?  Come join the fun this coming Wednesday, October 11, at OLSH’s first skating party of the school year.  A flier with the time, directions, and a permission slip (needed only if a parent is not accompanying his child) is coming home today in your child’s weekly packet.  The event should be a “howlin’ good time”—hope to see you there!

PICTURE DAY:  Lifetouch will be at OLSH for fall pictures this coming Thursday, October 12.  Students may be out of uniform on this day.  (Please refer to page 25 of the OLSH Parent Student Handbook for appropriate dress guidelines.)  Order forms were sent home in packets on Friday, September 22.  If you have misplaced your order form, please send your child to the school office to pick up another one.  If you’ve already sent the order to school, we are holding it in the office and will give it to your child’s homeroom teacher so that your child can hand it to the photographer on Thursday.  No child will have an individual picture taken unless he has an order form and payment on picture day.

We need two parents here on Thursday to facilitate movement of each homeroom to the Community Room for pictures and to make sure that collars are straight, hair is neat, etc.  Please call the school office (733-5225) if you can help us out.  Lifetouch starts taking pictures at 8 a.m. and usually finishes by lunchtime.

ROOM PARENT NEEDED:  We still need a second room parent for homeroom 6-O (helping Alison O’Neill) and 7-W (helping Kathy Hackett).  Please call the school office to sign up.  Thanks to all the parents who already signed up to do this for their children’s homerooms.

VOLUNTEER/VISITOR SIGN-IN:  We have a new sign-in procedure this year for our visitors and volunteers.  When you arrive, please come to the office and write your name on our Volunteer Sign-in Sheet, as usual.  We also ask that you fill out a visitor badge to wear while on the property so that others will know your name.  When you leave, we ask that you return to the office to sign out on our Volunteer Sign-in Sheet.  We thank you for helping us keep track of who is in our school building at all times.

MEET FR. RON:  Bring your calendar to Mass this weekend and sign up to attend a “Meet and Greet” with Fr. Ron.  This is a great opportunity to get to know our new pastor and fellow parishioners.  Call Sheila Sieder (733-9767) if you have questions or would like more details.

FLIERS FOR DISTRIBUTION:  Parents, if you have a flier to go home with the students, please make sure you make enough copies to include one for the teachers plus a few extras for the office to keep on file.  Please also remember that the office must approve anything that is to be distributed.  Thanks!

SPIRITWEAR:  A Spiritwear order was delivered to students during the week of September 25.  These items were ones ordered in May before the end of the 2005-06 school year.  Items that were ordered this school year will (hopefully) be in by the end of this month.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS:  We are in need of junior high volleyball coaches.  If you know someone or if you yourself have experience and knowledge of competitive volleyball and would like to coach, please contact Laurie Hoffman at lauriehoffman@fuse.net or by phone at 733-9380.  Tryout and open gym dates have been set for November 1, 4, and 5; times will be announced in a future Newsletter.  Please try and keep these dates open if you are playing volleyball.

YAC FUNDRAISER:  Check with your youngest for LaRosa Buddy Card order forms coming home today.  Refer any questions to Mary Gordon (755-1559).

PURCELL MARIAN TO VISIT:  Parents of eighth graders, please add Purcell Marian High School to your list of high schools to visit.  Their Open House will be on Sunday, October 29, from 11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.; for your convenience, their admissions test will be administered twice-- on Saturday, November 18 and again on Saturday, December 2 (both from 8:30 a.m. ‘til 12 noon).  Visit their website at www.PurcellMarian.org for more details.
