HURRICANE KATRINA DONATIONS:  We will continue to collect monetary donations to be sent to victims of Hurricane Katrina (in conjunction with Ss. Peter and Paul School) through next Friday, September 23.  If you have items to donate, you can still send them in to school with your children.  We will take them to St. Michael’s School to send with their donations, as Ss. Peter and Paul is finished collecting items.  OLSH’s Student Government will continue to donate all profits from any money-making ventures this school year to victims of Hurricane Katrina, as we recognize that the need will be there for quite some time.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS ART PROGRAM:  Please note that the first classes for the Fall session of the Young Rembrandts Art Program will begin next week (Wednesday or Thursday, depending on which day you chose for your child).  If you did not register your child and now find that you would like him to take these classes, you can still get him into the class.  Please call the school office.  This session runs through November 30/December 1.  Even if your child has taken the classes before, there will never be a repeat of a lesson.

CAR SEAT REQUEST:  If you have a rear-facing infant car seat that you would like to donate or lend the use of for this school year, please call the school office to let us know.  Mrs. Schworer needs one to use for the baby (doll) that the students will care for as part of her “RealCare Baby II” program.

BOOKLETS FROM THE STATE OF OHIO:  The Archdiocese curriculum follows the state standards.  We in Catholic schools refer to our curriculum as the Graded Course of Study.  This booklet, which is provided by the State of Ohio, has very good information and parental tips.  It is a good resource.   It will be given to each student by grade level--please check your child’s bookbag for this booklet.

NURSE’S OFFICE NEED:  We could use a new chair for the Nurse’s Office.  We have been using a leather recliner donated about five years ago by Stephanie Lyons’ grandparents; but it has seen better days and needs to be replaced.  We’d like to have a smaller chair, as the Nurse’s Office is not a very big room.  Please call the school office if you have a chair that you’d like to donate.  Thanks.

PTO:  Parents have responded to our call for chairpersons for Campbell’s soup labels, school supply packets, and the first grade picnic.  We still need someone to head up the following events:  Children’s Christmas Shop, Confirmation reception, graduation reception, Spirit Day games, and our website.  Please contact Jamie Brenner (554-4411) if you can help us out.

DRAMA CLUB 2005-06:  It’s just about time to gear up for another Drama Club program!  We will be starting in October and will meet on Thursdays after school.  The first meetings will be instruction classes.  In November, we will begin rehearsing our Christmas play, which will be performed the night of the chorus concert.  (Students may join both Choir and Drama.)  If you would like to join Drama Club (and it fits into your schedule), please sign up on the poster outside Mrs. O’Brien’s room by next Friday, September 23.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS:  OLSH will be selling Entertainment Books.  They will be delivered to school on Monday, September 19, and will most likely be sent home with your children on Friday, September 23.

YAC:  YAC winter sports registrations for girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball (grades 3-8) and boys’ high school basketball will be after all Masses this weekend (September 17/18) and next weekend (September 24/25) in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center.  Your child will be bringing home a registration form in his weekly packet this weekend.  NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH SCHOOL.

MARKET DAY:  We’re off to a great start this year.  Our profit for September’s sale was approximately $400.  Our goal for the year is $6000.  We are still in need of adult volunteers for our sales.  We would like to offer our drive-through service again this year but will be unable to without extra help.  The drive-through is a wonderful service to our customers, especially to the young moms with babies in tow and to our elderly.   If you can help, please sign up at the PTO meeting next Wednesday, September 21 or call Lisa Schoenberger (733-4707) or Valerie Grein (891-5830).
