Congratulations to Mrs. Jody Pelzel and her husband, Mark, who welcomed
Gavin Nicholas to the world on Thursday, May 4.
Gavin weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs.
Mother and baby are both doing fine!
PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE: Mrs. O’Brien recognizes first grader Joey
Speed and third grader Jennifer Sutor for their extra helpfulness, and
cafeteria worker Mrs. Daniels appreciates fifth grader Sam Ficke’s offers to
help clean up in the cafeteria. We
appreciate their Christian behavior!
HIGH ENERGY:
We often see a “natural” surge in energy this time of the school
year. Parents, please watch what your
children are bringing to drink in their lunches. Steer them away from those high-energy drinks
like Vault! Encourage them to make more
healthful choices. Thanks.
PARENT TEACHER REQUESTS: According to the OLSH Parent Student
Handbook, page 29, requests by parents for specific teachers were due by May
1. We will certainly look at all
requests, but the factors listed on page 29 are used for assigning students
when there are two classes of a grade.
SPRING PICTURES:
The deadline for returning spring pictures was Friday, May 12. If you still have money and/or unwanted
picture packages at home, please be sure to return them to school with your
child NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MAY 15.
Lifetouch will be making a pickup one day next week, and we’d like to
hand over all pictures and money at that time.

FINE ARTS DAY:
Our OLSH students will present a patriotic concert on Thursday, May 18,
at
FIFTH GRADE PLAY: The fifth graders will present their Biblical
play, Rescue in the Night—The Story of Daniel in
the Lions’ Den, next Friday, May 19, at

The eighth graders will present The Wizard of Oz on Monday, May

Eighth grader Meggie O’Brien’s poem, entitled “Dance Down
the Street”, has been judged worthy of publication by Creative Communication,

John Erby, president of the Vietnam Veterans Association and a Purple Heart
recipient, coming to OLSH to speak to our students on Thursday, May 25. He will address grades one through three at
SUMMER TUTORING:
Would your child benefit from summer tutoring? Whether to master concepts not fully
understood during the school year or to maintain skills for the next school
year, tutoring can be valuable time spent.

As you may know, I have been a teacher’s aide/substitute teacher at OLSH
for several years. If you are interested
in tutoring for your child (those entering grades 1-6), please feel free to

LIBRARY: As of May
12, students may no longer check books out of the library. Please make sure all books are returned
during your child’s library time this week and that all fines are paid. Also, thank you to everyone who helped review
books for the library this year. Please
return all books and reviews no later than next Friday, May 19. If you have any questions, contact Alison

SPIRITWEAR:
Please look for Spiritwear order forms coming home today. All orders and money are due by Monday, May
22. Make your check payable to “OLSH
YAC” and send orders to the office marked “Spiritwear”. PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE: Please check to see what items your child
will need to begin the school year next August.
If items are needed, your order must be placed now. All orders will be placed over the summer,
and delivery will be made to your child’s homeroom sometime during the first
week of school. If there are any
questions, call Laura Benson at 984-6984.
OLSH SUMMER FESTIVAL: Believe it or not, it is time to get ready
for this year’s festival; and the Grocery Booth is asking for your help and
generous donations. We have broken down
the list of items needed for the Grocery Booth as follows: Grade 1—cleaning supplies; Grade 2—paper
products; Grade 3—packaged food (i.e., pasta, rice, mac and cheese, etc.);
Grade 4—baking goods (please, no chocolate—it melts!); Grades 5 and 7—cereal;
Grade 6—snack foods; and Grade 8—canned goods.
Items can be sent in to school with your child. We are also looking for volunteers to work
the booth. This is a great way to meet
new people! If you can donate two hours
of your time, contact Lisa McCabe at 755-0893.
OLSH YAC FALL SPORTS SIGNUPS: Signups will take place after all Masses on
May 13/14 and May 20/21 in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center for the
following sports (all grades are 2006-07):
boys’ football, grades 3 through 8; girls’ basketball, grades 3 through
8; girls’ cheerleading, grades 5 through 8.
We will also have signups for OLSH/SPPS club SAY soccer for current K
through 7th grade (ages 6 through 13). The cost is $35 per sport and $105 for
football. (
YOUTH WRITING CAMP:
The Ohio Writing Project is holding a Youth Writing Camp on the
ALUMNI NEWS:
Eighth graders, keep us posted on what’s happening to you in high
school! We will be posting items of
interest regarding OLSH alumni on the bulletin board near the junior high
classrooms. Please send items to the
Parish or school office or email the information to us. We’d love to hear what you (and all other
