RCIA CANDIDATES:  We’d like to recognize several of our parents who are RCIA candidates and will receive first sacraments at Easter Vigil on Saturday.  They are:  Kathy Fryman, mother of second grader Kaitlyn (who, with her younger sister, will also be baptized); Lori Vanover, mother of second grader Jacob (who, with his younger brother, will also be baptized); and Lorraine Herbert, mother of second grader Alexandria.  Second grader Jessica Smith will also be baptized on Saturday.  Congratulations to these newest members of our Catholic faith.

STAFF CHANGES:  Due to a family situation, first grade teacher Mrs. Marlene O’Brien will leave at the end of this school year to pursue part-time work.   Mrs. Mary Jo Eggenberger will be the long-term sub for current second grade teacher Mrs. Jody Pelzel beginning on Monday, April 24, when Mrs. Pelzel goes on maternity leave.   Mrs. Pelzel will return in the fall to teach first grade.  Mrs. Karen Jara, our school psychologist, will not return next year.  Mrs. Cheryl Raine will be our Music teacher for 2006-07.  Mrs. Raine is experienced in both elementary and high school music instruction.  We appreciate the excellent work Mrs. O’Brien, Mrs. Jara, and Mrs. Rieman have done over the past years and wish them success in their future endeavors.

CONGRATULATIONS:  Eighth grader Jessica James is the recipient of the Knights of St. John scholarship.  The amount of the scholarship is $800 per year, renewable for all four years that Jessica will be in high school.  Congratulations, Jessica!

PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  We have many students who are being recognized for their outstanding Christian behavior in the past week.  These students are:  Lily Beck (3-P), for helping every day in Mrs. O’Brien’s room; Patrick Guye (2-R), for offering to clean up garbage left behind in the cafeteria; Hannah Vogt (8-S), for helping Mrs. Schworer without ever being asked; Tyler Schaeper and Daniel Widmann (8-S) for stuffing bulletins with flyers about the Living Stations; and Tyler Neumeister (8-S), for helping out at Bingo night.  The following students are being recognized by Mrs. Angela Guye and Mrs. Wendy Schworer for helping the Lenten Committee on their own time:  third graders Katie and Maddie Rinderle; fourth grader Holly Carota; fifth graders Darcie Gorsuch, Elizabeth Guye, Ashley Peter, and Jonathan Schworer; sixth graders Alyssa Armstrong, Abbie Dial, Zach Frey, and Theresa Guye; and eighth graders Missy Gottschlich, Katie Lucas, Anna New, Lindsey Rinderle, Katie Shadley, and Hannah Vogt.

LENTEN RAFFLE:  Congratulations to the following winners of last week’s raffles:  Kory Boothe, Tony Engel, Kelley Peter, and Danny Vidourek (KFC lunch with Mrs. Adelmann); Meggie O’Brien (artist bag); Michaela Sand (five free guitar lessons from Mrs. Rieman); Chris Kessling (Ohio State pack); Sami Mehbod (bunny bag); and Ryan Benson and Joey O’Brien (golf outing).  A big “thank you” to all participants.  All proceeds from these raffles and all monetary contributions will be sent to our Friends of Batahola in Nicaragua.  We will announce our grand total in the April 28 Newsletter, but we think the total will be approximately $1500.  Wow!  Thank you!

SURPRISE:  Students are in for a surprise on Tuesday, April 25.  You may come to school dressed in Bengals’ gear or in black and orange.  (You also have the option of wearing your school uniform.)  We can’t tell you anything else…

KINDERGARTEN VISIT:  Current kindergartners will have an opportunity on Wednesday, April 26, to sit in with this year’s first graders in Mrs. O’Brien’s class.  We look forward to meeting next year’s youngest students!

HIGH SCHOOL DECISIONS:  Parents of current eighth graders—please call the school office or send a note in with your child advising us about your choice of high school for your eighth grader.  We would appreciate this information as soon as possible.  Thank you.

SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS:  Please look for an order form coming home with your student(s) today.  Attached to the order form is additional information regarding deadlines and pickup dates.

IGA LABELS FOR LEARNING:  Please continue to save your IGA-brand labels/UPCs.  Please put them in a bag marked “IGA Labels” in the Campbell’s containers, as we have many programs using these containers.  This will make it easier for each chairperson to retrieve the correct UPCs/labels.  It is not necessary to put your child’s name on the back of the IGA labels, as these are not included in the monthly drawing.  If you have any questions, please call Lisa Schoenberger at 733-4707.

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS:  Our March out-of-uniform winners are:  Sydney Blum (2-P), Kaitlyn Fryman (2-R), Alex Smeal (3-P), Kristin Bigler (4-D), Kyle Gordon (6-G), Kelley Glassmeyer (7-H), and Tyler Schaeper (8-S).  Thanks for participating!

READING LITTER CLEANUP DAY:  This event will take place on Saturday, April 22, starting at Koenig Park.  Please call Carol Bullock-Carpenter, Coordinator, at 733-4857 to sign up.

SUA CAMPS:  St. Ursula Academy will offer four summer camps during the month of June.  The programs include:  Theatre Camp 2006, Beginning Guitar, An Introduction to Spanish, and “Harry and the Hobbits:  Using Fantasy Literature to Expand the Imagination”.  Please visit their website (www.saintursula.org) for more information and registration forms.

NURSE’S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse’s Office for Friday, April 28, are Eleanor Bermingham (8 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.) and Jamie Brenner (11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
