                                    FIRST DAY of EASTER BREAK

FISH FRY:  Tonight (Friday, April 7) is your last chance this year to enjoy OLSH’s Fish Fry.  Plan to attend for great food, good company, and a kids’ activity center.  We hope to see everyone there.  If you have any Fish Fry yard signs, please return them to the school next week before we break for Easter.  Thank you to all the workers and supporters of OLSH PTO’s Fish Fry Fridays!

POWER OF THE PEN:  Good luck to our eighth-grade writers Jonathan Brandstetter, Nick Kallenberg, and Hannah Vogt, who will compete in the Regional round of writing to be held tomorrow (Saturday, April 8) at Sycamore Junior High School.

PICTURE DAY:  Spring pictures will be taken next Wednesday, April 12.  Students may be out of uniform on this day.  (Please refer to page 25 of the OLSH Parent Student Handbook for guidelines concerning appropriate dress.)  All students will be photographed unless you have filled out and sent in to school the portion of the order form indicating that you do not want to have your child’s picture taken.  Send no money now—you will receive your child’s processed portrait package in a few weeks and can decide at that time if you wish to buy it or return it to Lifetouch through school.

PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  Thank you to the following students for showing Christian example in their behavior:  Noah Armstrong, Patrick Guye, and Kelley Peter for their willingness to help after school; Kory Boothe, Elizabeth Guye, and Alex Smeal for often helping Mrs. O’Brien; and Katie Rieman for cheerfully volunteering to take time after school to get another student’s homework together when he was absent.

CHESS AWARDS:  Thank you from Mrs. Rogers to OLSH’s PTO for providing awards for all OLSH chess players.

LIVING STATIONS OF THE CROSS:  Plan to be at church next Tuesday evening at 7:30 for our eighth graders’ moving portrayal of the Passion and death of Jesus, complete with readings, props, acting, and costumes and directed by teacher Mrs. Wendy Schworer.  The Living Stations of the Cross will be presented for the school on Holy Thursday at 1:30 p.m., also in the church.  This could be the most meaningful way for you to wrap up this Lenten season.

LENTEN RAFFLE:  Congratulations to the following winners of last week’s raffles:  Michaela Sand (Rabble the Dog); Colleen Armstrong (movie basket); Danny Miller and Dan Vidourek (ice cream sundae party); Elizabeth Mechley and Sydney Zeuch (bracelet making); and Darcie Gorsuch, Ali Kessling, Chris Kessling, Keith Kennedy, and Stephanie Lyons (out-of-uniform passes).  This week’s raffle items are:  KFC luncheon (a scrumptious lunch provided by Mrs. Adelmann when we return from Easter break for four winners and one friend each); artist/busy bag (a bag full of puzzle books, markers, colored pencils, and games donated by Mrs. Schoenberger and Mrs. Thamann); five guitar lessons (donated by Mrs. Rieman); an OSU gift pack/bunny basket (win a gift pack that includes an OSU cap and t-shirt or a bunny basket that contains a picture frame, notebook, bunny pen and more, donated by Mrs. Guye); a trip to the driving range (two winners will win a trip to Etter’s Driving Range after we return from Easter, donated by eighth graders Craig Gorsuch and Daniel Widmann); and out-of-uniform passes (six to be given away).  This is our last raffle for this Lenten season.   Buy your tickets any morning before 7:45 a.m. in Ms. Schafer’s homeroom; tickets are 25 cents each or 5 for $1.  All proceeds benefit our Nicaragua collection.

SPRING CHOIR:  Please check your child’s folder coming home today for a permission slip to fill out if your child would like to join OLSH’s Spring choir.  Practice will begin after Easter break, with the first practice scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, from 2:30 p.m. ‘til 3:30 p.m.  A concert is planned for sometime in late May.

OLSH DIRECTORY:  Please do not use the OLSH Student Directory as a mailing list for your business.  The information contained in that Directory is intended only for the personal use of OLSH families.  Thank you.

GIVEAWAY:  Would you like to send your child to OLSH free for one year?  To register, go to http://www.valuesforalifetime.com/tuition/index.php, then fill out the application that pops up.  The drawing will be on July 1, 2006; and the winner will receive free tuition for the 2006-07 school year to the Catholic elementary or secondary school of his or her choice in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  See details on the website.

DROP INN CENTER RUN/WALK:  Look for flyers coming home today with information about this event, which will take place on Sunday, April 30.  This “Celebration of Life and Hope” is in honor of first grader Chase Merritt’s baby sister who was born in June of 2004 and passed away in August, 2004.  Their family has since been blessed with another daughter.  (We apologize if last week’s Newsletter caused any confusion.)

READING LITTER CLEANUP DAY:  As reported in last week’s Newsletter, this event will take place on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 10 a.m. at Koenig Park.   Please contact Carol Bullock-Carpenter at 733-4857 for more information or to sign up.
