SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  The Scholastic Book Fair is next week!  Students will shop the Book Fair during their regular library times.  Parents are invited to join them or shop after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2.  Look for a letter and flyer coming home with students today.  Remember—the Book Fair will take place in room 7 of the school (next to Mrs. O’Brien’s classroom), not in the library.  Hope to see you there!

WORM BIN WORKSHOP:  The “Nature Recycles:  Make and Take Worm Bin” Workshop will be held here at OLSH in the cafeteria on Thursday, March 30 from 6 p.m. ‘til 8 p.m.  All families who registered must have a parent in attendance that evening.   If you have questions, you can email Mrs. Rohlfs at rohlfsk@olshschool.net or Mrs. Baker at bakerk@olshschool.net.

SHADOW STATIONS:  The sixth grade’s shadow portrayal of the Stations of the Cross will be at 12:45 p.m. in the Activity Center on Friday, March 31.  Please note this time change made to accommodate setup for the Fish Fry that evening.

PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  We’d like to recognize the following students for demonstrating examples of Christian behavior:  Kory Boothe and Matt McFarland, both 3-P students, who offered to wash cafeteria tables for Mr. Mueller on his birthday this past Wednesday, March 22; Lily Beck, also in 3-P, for helping Mrs. O’Brien in the mornings before school starts; and eighth graders Jonathan Brandstetter, Craig Gorsuch, Tyler Neumeister, and Joey O’Brien for helping a first grader look for his religious medal.

MATH LEAGUE CONTEST:  During the last week of February, all junior high students participated in the Math League Contest.  The Contest was 30 minutes long and was conducted during Math class.  Students achieving a score of 15 or higher are to be commended on their effort and ability.  The top five contestants in each grade received a certificate of recognition.  These students are:  eighth graders Keith Kennedy (32 correct), Jonathan Brandstetter (29 correct), Daniel Widmann (28 correct), Hannah Vogt (27 correct), and Matt Mulderig (24 correct) and seventh graders Paul Anderson (22 correct), Kevin Bishop (21 correct), Kiki Isaac (21 correct), Ryan Oltorik (21 correct), and Luke Shadley (19 correct).  Way to go, Math wizards!

LENTEN RAFFLE:  Congratulations to the following winners of last week’s raffles:  Grace Kallenberg (soccer Easter basket); Holly Nurre (Graeter’s gift card and treats); Dan Vidourek (Wendy’s gift card); Andrew Pryse (Skyline gift card); Brandon Lutts (ice cream treat basket from the eighth grade); and Kevin Bishop, Adam Garbacik, Chris Kessling, Cody Kloth, Kirsten Lucas, Mindy O’Brien, and Katelyn Schaeper (out-of-uniform passes).  This week’s raffle items are:  a summer fun basket (The Lamb and the Butterfly by Eric Carle, a plush sheep and baby, and a tub full of summer fun activities); homemade chocolate chip cookies (from Mrs. Baker, of course!); a movie night bag (a movie from Blockbuster and treats to go with it); a pizza and pop lunch for two winners and a friend each (donated by Amanda Eagan, Ashley Hollingsworth, and Hannah Vogt); and six out-of-uniform passes.  All raffle tickets are 25 cents each or five for $1 and can be purchased any morning before 7:45 a.m. in Ms. Schafer’s homeroom.  All proceeds from the raffles and any monetary donations will be sent to Nicaragua.

PRAYER SERVICE/BINGO NIGHT:  All families are invited to OLSH’s second annual Prayer Service/Bingo Night to be held on Thursday, April 6 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.  Take a break from your usual evening routine and join us for a prayer- and fun-filled night!

OLSH WEBSITE:  Check out the OLSH website (www.olshschool.net)!  Faculty and staff spent Monday, March 13, with Mrs. Gorsuch as she patiently walked us through the development of our web pages.   We discovered that it was fun and not as difficult as we thought it was going to be.  Visit your child’s and other homerooms’ sites for updates on what’s been going on in our classrooms.

PICTURE DAY:  Spring pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 12.  Please see flyers coming home today for detailed information.  We could use two volunteers on that day to help with the flow of students as they are photographed.  The photographer starts at 8 a.m. and is usually finished before noon, so we would need any volunteers to be here at 7:50 a.m. and stay until all pictures have been taken.  Please call the school office (733-5225) if you’d like to help out.  Thanks.

CAMPBELL’S LABELS:  We want to thank everyone for sending in their soup labels.  We were able to order several items for the school at no cost to us:  a Royal paper shredder, an emergency radio/light, an audiovisual utility cart, and eight sets of playground balls.  Thank you.  Please keep sending in those labels!

LOST AND FOUND:  The following items turned up in the school office recently:  a key, a watch, and a beaded US flag coin purse.  Please call the office if any of these items belong to you.

CALENDAR CHANGE (#4?):  Spirit Day 2006 will now take place on Thursday, June 1.  It will be chaired by Mary Beth Armstrong.

NURSE’S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse’s Office for Friday, March 31, are Eleanor Bermingham (8 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.) and Tamara Anderson (11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
