CONFIRMATION:  Congratulations to our eighth graders and parish CCD students who were confirmed last Sunday afternoon.  Teachers who attended were impressed with the inspiration they drew from the homily by Dean Mark Burger, who confirmed our students.

REGISTRATION:  Don’t forget that Tuesday, March 14, is the final day to register your children for the 2006-07 school year.  Please remember to send in your registration fee, as your child will not be considered registered without it.  After Tuesday, unregistered and new students will be accepted as space is available.

STAFF CHANGE:  Mrs. Gina Rieman, who has been our Music Instructor for the past eight years, will be leaving at the end of this school year.  Mrs. Rieman has been a wonderful teacher and is a gifted musician who so obviously enjoys sharing her love of music with children.  Mrs. Rieman made music fun, and the sounds that came out of her classroom were happy and spirited.  We hope your children profited from the diversity of musical ideas that she introduced to OLSH students during these past eight years.  We will certainly miss Gina’s work with our students and her presence.   We wish her the best.

SAFETY ISSUE:  Please stay in the line of traffic dropping students off in the morning.  We have noticed several parents driving around the cars that are lined up along the sidewalk dropping off children.  Some of our children exit their cars on the right side and could dart into the path of a car trying to rush through this drop-off procedure.  Please consider our children’s safety!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY DANCE:  Don’t miss the St. Patrick’s Dance this Saturday evening (March 11) from 8 p.m. ‘til 1 a.m. in the Activity Center with music provided by The Bentwood Rockers.  Tickets are $15, and you must be 21 to attend.   Contact any YAC Board Member or Ed Riordan (769-3893 or eriordan@zoomtown.com) for further information.

VARIETY SHOW:  Monday the 13th is the big night—the second annual OLSH Variety Show.  Come see the talent our students possess!  The show begins at 6:30 p.m.  Call time is 6 p.m. sharp.  (Stage and tech crew must report at 5:45 p.m.)  There will be an extra rehearsal on Monday, March 13, at 10 a.m. in the gym for those who missed Tuesday’s dress rehearsal due to illness.  Also, since Mrs. Mace was ill on the day of the dress rehearsal, all acts that require piano accompaniment should also attend at 10 a.m. on Monday so they can practice with Mrs. Mace (or another accompanist).  While this is an optional rehearsal, we strongly recommend that you attend if you can.  Also, any acts that want more practice may attend.  We will have a tech person working with a spotlight; so if you want to know what it feels like to perform under a spotlight, please come Monday morning.  Finally, anyone who would like to make a finger snack for the reception should contact Heather VonLehmden at 733-3337.  Any other questions should be directed to Tamara Anderson at 733-3077.

LENTEN RAFFLE:  Congratulations to the following winners of last week’s raffles:  Andi Zaferes and friend (St. Patrick’s Day luncheon with Mrs. O’Brien); Graci Doll and Ashley Peter (Moeller t-shirts); Matt McFarland (candy basket); Ellie Wessinger and friend and Grace Kallenberg and friend (a day at the “spa”); and Keith Chachoff, Christopher Meyer, Kaitlyn Fryman, Grace Kallenberg, Kathryn Vidourek, and Ryan Boothe (out-of-uniform passes).  This week’s raffles are:  a crocheted football or soccer ball (made by Mrs. Dunlap), a mystery box (donated by Ms. Schafer), a $10 gift certificate to Dairy Queen (donated by Mrs. Pelzel), a glass chess set (donated by Mrs. Rohlfs), and five winners of “basketball fun” (a basketball session with eighth-grade “pros” David Schneider, Brock Stephens, and Tim Koppenhafer).  Raffle tickets are always 25 cents or five for $1 and can be purchased every day before school in Ms. Schafer’s homeroom.  We thank you all for your participation.  Remember also that you can donate at any time to our donation jars in each homeroom.  All money collected from both the raffles and these donation jars will be sent to Nicaragua.

FISH FRY:  We still need parent and student volunteers for the Fish Fry nights beginning Friday, March 24.  Volunteers are needed for all three shifts:  3-5 p.m., 5-7 p.m., and 7-9 p.m.  Students who volunteer and work their shift will receive an out-of-uniform pass.  (Students in grades one through five must have a parent working with them.)  We also need desserts—we are asking students in grades one, two, and three to bring desserts on March 24; students in grades four and five to bring them on March 31; and students in grades six, seven, and eight to supply them on April 7.  Desserts can be dropped off in the Tiger Room after 10 a.m. on the day of the Fish Fry, or you can call Mary Beth Armstrong at 793-4574 to make other arrangements.  Thanks for your anticipated donations of both time and goodies!

PRAYER NIGHT:  Give up TV for one night and discover a fun alternative!  Plan to join fellow students and their family members on Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m. as we get together for a prayer service followed by a game of Bingo while enjoying a popcorn snack.

URGENT:  PTO needs a President and Vice-President for the 2006-07 school year.  The duties of the President are:  preside over and facilitate general membership and board meetings; review minutes of the last PTO meeting; review monthly bank statements; and provide a written agenda for each general membership and board meeting.  If you have questions about these duties, please contact the current PTO President, Jamie Brenner, at 554-4411.  The duties of the Vice-President are:  perform the President’s duties in her absence; attend Parish Council meetings and report on their activities at the general membership meeting; and oversee the chairpersons of the PTO committees.  Please contact the current Vice-President, Heather VonLehmden, at 733-3337.  Any nominations for either of these positions can be given to any PTO board member.

THANKS!:  Many thanks to all the parents, teachers, relatives, parishioners, friends, and neighbors who participated in February’s Market Research Study to benefit OLSH PTO.  We earned $570—that makes $1158 earned this school year from surveys!!  Those who participated know this was a quick, easy, and enjoyable way to earn money; so please keep that in mind the next time around!  Special thanks to those who helped make it happen:  Mrs. Creighton, Mr. Moeggenberg, Mr. Mueller, Barb Widmann, Cyndy Eagan, Tracy Engel, Kim Pomeroy, Pam Kennedy, and our babysitters (Christina Vuotto, Craig Gorsuch, Amanda Eagan, Sarah Bohlen, Katie Bohlen, and Paige Fisher).

TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION:  This month (March), our school received a check in the amount of $299.10, which is a donation by Target stores of 1% of purchases by parents and staff who signed up for this program.  You can designate OLSH to receive more donations by doing one of the following:  visiting Target.com/tcoe; stopping by the kiosk in your favorite Target store; or calling 1-800-316-6142.  Coupled with the check we received in September, our total money earned this school year is $483.43.  Thanks to all who participate in this program.

WORM BIN WORKSHOP:  Please return all registration forms (sent home last Friday, March 3, with second- through fifth-grade students)  by next Friday, March 17, for this workshop to be held here at OLSH on Thursday, March 30.

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS:  Our February out-of-uniform pass winners are:  Renee Finan and Hannah Gordon (1-O), Joey Pomeroy (2-R), Olivia Peters (4-D), Brandon Glassmeyer and Ryan Gordon (4-T), Seth Harris (5-B), and Missy Gottschlich (8-S).  Don’t forget—labels are eligible only if there is one name on each individual label.  Thank you!

BOOK FAIR:  Spring Book Fair is just around the corner!  Mark your calendars for the week of March 27.  Students will shop the Book Fair during their regular library times.  Parents are invited to join them then or may shop after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday, April 1 and 2.  Proceeds from this Book Fair will be used to purchase teacher-requested books for classrooms and to purchase A.R. tests for books we currently have in the library.

YEARBOOKS:  You can still order a 2005-06 yearbook.  Send in your order form with $14 per book ordered by April 14.  Call Alison O’Neill (769-4853) with any questions.

RED CROSS BABYSITTER COURSE:  A Red Cross Babysitting Course will be offered on Tuesday, April 18, from 8:30 a.m. ‘til 4 p.m. at the Red Cross Northeast Office, 10870 Kenwood Road in Blue Ash.  The program is designed to teach youths 11 years or older about the responsibilities of a babysitter.  Students will learn diapering, feeding, accident prevention, and emergency first aid as well as how to choose age-appropriate games and toys and how to prepare for a job as a babysitter.  You can sign up at cincinnatiredcross.org.

NURSE’S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse’s Office for Friday, March 17, are Eleanor Bermingham (8 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.) and Kathy Mahoney (11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
