THANK YOU:  We forgot to mention a key player in our Catholic Schools Week celebration.  We thank Mrs. Tebbe for her work in planning the liturgy, an integral part of that week’s recognition of all that is good in our Catholic schools.  Thanks, Mrs. Tebbe.

FIRST RECONCILIATION:  Congratulations to our second graders and our CCD students who made their First Reconciliation this past Thursday.  A special “thank you” to teachers Mrs. Pelzel, Mrs. Rohlfs, and Mrs. Gorsuch for helping these children prepare for this important event in their religious lives.

PAWS (PAUSE) FOR PRAISE:  Ms. Schafer would like to recognize Lindsey Kroeger (1-O) and Christina Vuotto (8-C) for their extra effort, and Mrs. O’Brien acknowledges Leighton Vaske (1-O) for being a quiet helper and for his complete honesty.  Congratulations to these fine examples of Christian behavior.

POWER OF THE PEN UPDATE:  Jonathan Brandstetter (who started out as an alternate) placed tenth out of 132 eighth grade students at the Power of the Pen District Tournament held at Little Miami Junior High last Saturday.  As soon as we hear, we’ll let you know which of our seventh and eighth grade writers were chosen to participate in the Regionals at Sycamore Junior High on April 8.  Congratulations to our team!

REGISTRATION FOR 2006-07:  Parents, please look for next year’s registration materials coming home today with your youngest.  If you will have a first grader next year, your materials will be in an envelope and will include a Registration form and a Release of Records form for you to complete and return to the school office along with your re-registration of any children currently in attendance at OLSH.  All other families will have just a “Currently Enrolled Families” Registration form to be returned.  All forms must be returned no later than Tuesday, March 14, and must include the registration fee in order for your child(ren) to be registered for 2006-07.

ADVERTISING OLSH:  For three weeks (beginning this week), OLSH will have an advertisement in the three local Suburban Press publications (Tri-County Press, Suburban Life, and Northeast Suburban Life).  The purpose of these ads is to publicize what we consider to be some of our strong points, such as spiritual values taught, liturgical celebrations, our Enrichment and Computer programs, and several programs specific to our seventh and eighth grade junior high (such as “In Control” and “Baby Think It Over”).  If interested families ask you for information, perhaps you will have seen our ad and will be able to help sell OLSH based on the reasons you chose OLSH for your children.

PASSPORT NIGHT:  We are looking forward to “Passport Night” to be held on Thursday, March 9.  All families (including siblings) are invited!  Since there are no sports activities scheduled for that night, all students are expected to be in attendance, as they all have a part in the evening’s events.   Come visit the Far East, Europe, New Zealand, and more!  We challenge you to find a travel agency that offers a trip of this caliber at a price this “family friendly” (i.e., free)!

SEAMSTRESS NEEDED:  Actually, you don’t have to be a “seamstress” to do this.  We need someone with basic sewing skills to make repairs on some costumes that we use here at school for various plays.  Please call the school office if you are able and willing to help us out.

UNIFORM UPKEEP:  Speaking of sewing, why not take advantage of the long weekend to check out your child’s school and gym uniforms for needed mending, button replacement, hemming, washing, etc.  This is the time of year when clothing worn day in and day out starts to need some repair and some “freshening up”.  Make your kids’ uniforms look like something they’re proud to wear!

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK SALE:  We are in the process of finding a chairperson for next year’s Entertainment Book sale.  Please contact Heather VonLehmden at 733-3337 with questions or to volunteer your services.  Thank you.

SUMMER PREP CLASS AT MND:  Parents of eighth grade girls, please check with your daughters for a flyer being sent home today with details about a summer AP/Social Studies Prep Course being offered at MND in July/August. (Your daughter does not need to be planning to attend MND in the fall—this class is open to any incoming freshman girls, regardless of where they plan to go to high school.)

NURSE’S OFFICE:  Volunteers in the Nurse’s Office for Friday, February 24, are Michele Gottschlich (8 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.) and Jamie Brenner (11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
