Looking Ahead…

CONDOLENCES:
The father of first-grade teacher Mrs. O’Brien passed away on Monday,
November 28. We extend our sympathy to
Marlene and her family.
(SECOND!) CALENDAR CHANGE: The date for Spirit Day has been changed
(again). It is now set for Friday, May
19. We will have early dismissal (
PAWS FOR PRAISE:
November’s honorees for the “Paws for Praise” awards are: Noah Armstrong, Chase Craven, Aaron Doppes,
Maria Gallagher, Missy Gottschlich, Tyler Grau, Casey Holtmann, Katie Lucas,
Shannon Mahoney, Nick Payne, Jake Potts, Carly Rohs, Tyler Schaeper, and Dylan
Vogt. Congratulations to these students
for setting good examples of Christian behavior.
CAFETERIA NEWS:
Our cafeteria is much more pleasant with our new acoustical panels in
place (which have reduced the noise level measurably) and with the new table
arrangement (which allows us to spread out).
With more space, we will put up a Christmas tree that students may
decorate with new mittens, gloves, hats, or socks. These items will be donated at Christmas. You may send your “ornaments” in with your
children to the school office. Thank
you.
SANTA SHOP:
The Santa Shop sale dates are this coming Thursday, December 8, and
Friday, December 9. The Santa Shop
offers our children the opportunity to purchase inexpensive holiday gifts for
their family and friends. Donations of
holiday gift items or handcrafted treasures are still being accepted. Individually wrapped candy is always a big
hit. We will also gratefully accept any
additional offers of help, both with setup on Wednesday, December 7, and with
the sale on both Thursday and Friday.
Please call Alison O’Neill (769-4853) or Kim Pomeroy (733-5513) if you
can help out. Also, please look for
additional Santa Shop information and a budget envelope coming home today with
your children.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT:
An all-school Christmas concert (with the exception of the fourth-grade
Band students) will take place on Tuesday, December 20 (our last day before
Christmas break), at 9:30 a.m. in the Activity Center. Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities.
YEARBOOK GOES DIGITAL: If you have any images of our students taken
with a digital camera with a minimum of 3.1 megapixels, please email them to us
at yearbook@olshschool.net. (Thanks to Julie Gorsuch for setting up this
email account.) You can also submit
traditional snapshots or photos that have been downloaded to a disc. We have not received any photos for the
yearbook yet. Please send your digital
images, discs, or photos to us so we can be sure to include your child in the
2005-06 yearbook!
Send any photo prints or discs to Alison O’Neill c/o
Ellen in 5-B.
CHESS: ‘Tis the
season for…chess! There will be chess
games in the Community Room during lunch/recess for grades four through eight
on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are sign-up
sheets in the hallway for students who want to learn how to play and for those
students who are willing to teach others.
Please encourage your children to participate, as there are many
academic advantages for children who develop chess skills. The tournament will begin in February. If you have questions, please contact Mrs.
Rogers through the school office.
OFFICE DEPOT PROGRAM: We encourage parents to continue to shop at
Office Depot, which offers a program (Office Depot 5% Back to Schools) that credits
5% of your purchase back to your school.
We recently received a merchandise card valued at $67.29 to be used at
Office Depot for classroom supplies, office supplies, or anything that helps
ensure a better learning environment for our students. The current program period to get credits for
free supplies is October 1 through
MARKET DAY:
We were able to purchase pies and other needed items for our Student
Government Thanksgiving food baskets with the $73.55 donated in our Pennies for
Pies collection. Thank you also to those
families who donated 20 pies from our pie-selling contest. We truly appreciate your generosity.
