PAWS FOR PRAISE:  Recognition goes to the following students for their extra effort to show Christian behavior:  second graders Lauren Curry, Kaitlyn Fryman, and Kirsten Lucas; fourth graders Brandon Glassmeyer and Dylan Vogt; and eighth graders Amanda Eagan and Ashley Hollingsworth.  Congratulations to these students.

 

UNIFORMS:  Please check your child’s uniform for tears and rips that need repair or sweatshirts that need laundering.  Also, check to see that the cuffs of sweatshirts are intact.  Take pride in your appearance and in your OLSH school uniform!

 

AWARDS:  Because of their high scores (90th percentile or above) on the Mt. Notre Dame STS Placement Test taken on November 19, the following OLSH eighth-grade girls have been designated “Billiart Honorees”:  Sarah Bohlen, Amanda Eagan, Missy Gottschlich, Jessica James, Katie Lucas, Meggie O’Brien, Mindy O”Brien, Carly Rohs, Katie Shadley, and Hannah Vogt.  They will be honored at a special ceremony on Wednesday, January 18, at 7 p.m. at Mt. Notre Dame High School.  The following eighth-grade boys were recognized for their achievement on the Moeller entrance exam and earned an “Admission with Distinction” designation at a ceremony held on Thursday, January 12:  Jonathan Brandstetter, Drew Fladung, Craig Gorsuch, Keith Kennedy, Jake McCabe, Jake Potts, and Daniel Widmann.  Congratulations to these outstanding scholars!

 

POWER OF THE PEN:  The following students were selected to participate in the Power of the Pen Writing Tournament:  seventh graders Patrick Bennett, Holly Gruber, Molly Hildebrandt, Kiki Isaac, Nick Kallenberg, and Andy Zaferes (with Sara Carota selected as an alternate); and eighth graders Drew Fladung, Craig Gorsuch, Missy Gottschlich, Ashley Hollingsworth, Hannah Vogt, and Christina Vuotto (with alternates Jonathan Brandstetter and Katie Shadley).  The first round of the competition will take place on Saturday, February 11, at Little Miami Junior High School.  We’ll keep you posted on their progress.

 

KUDOS:  We send our congratulations to former student David Mosko, now a junior at St. Xavier High School, who won a gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly and a bronze in the 100-meter freestyle at the World Championships in Australia.  Keep an eye on this rising swimming star!

 

YOUNG REMBRANDTS:  The winter session of the Young Rembrandts Art Program  begins on Wednesday, January 25, here at OLSH from 2:30 p.m. ‘til 3:30 p.m.  This session will be taught by our very own, very talented Mrs. Carpenter!  These classes are offered to all students in grades one through five.  All materials are supplied, and no class is ever repeated.  Call Young Rembrandts to register (779-5858) or pick up an application form outside the school office. 

 

MAGAZINES:  You can now order and renew magazine subscriptions online all year ‘round, with 40% of the purchase prices going to support our school.  Go to our school website (www.olshschool.net) and click on the following:  fundraising—magazine orders—magazine store—shop online—type in school code W03315—enter the student’s name—start shopping.  Items purchased now under a student’s name will count for their End-of-Sale prizes for our PTO Fall Major Fundraiser 2006.  (Turn-In Day prizes during the sale in the fall must be submitted that day.)   If you have questions, e-mail Pam Kennedy at pendres@cinci.rr.com or call Pam at 984-4597.

 

BASKETBALL PARENTS:  Please check the OLSH website for the volunteer schedule for the OLSH boys’ basketball tournament. 

 

NURSE’S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse’s Office for Friday, January 20, are Kathy Mahoney (8 a.m. ‘til 11 a.m.) and Tamara Anderson (11 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
