CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS:  Daylight Saving Time officially ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 30.  Please remember to set your clocks BACK one hour before you go to be on Saturday.  Remember also to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

SCHOOL UNIFORM:  Monday, October 31 will be the last day (until April 1) that students are allowed to wear shorts as part of the school uniform.  Beginning Tuesday, November 1, all students must wear either long navy (grades 1-8) or khaki (grades 7 and 8) pants or the school jumper (grades 1-4), plaid skort (grades 1-8), or plaid skirt (grades 5 and 6).  Please refer to pages 23 and 24 of the Parent-Student Handbook for complete dress guidelines.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  The Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner!  Mark your calendars for the week of November 14, when students will shop the Book Fair during their regular library times.  Parents are invited to join them or shop during parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, November 15 from 4 p.m. 'til 8 p.m. or after Masses on Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20.  This is a great way to get a head start on Christmas shopping and raise money for the school library at the same time!

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS SHOP:  The Children's Christmas Shop is back by popular demand!  Since the timing to prepare and organize this event is seriously limited, there is a real need for volunteers to help!  The organizing committee will be divided into four working groups with one person responsible for each area.  So far, Alison O'Neill is the coordinator for the consignment company and Kim Pomeroy will procure donations and early purchases.  Two (as of yet, unknown/generous) OLSH individuals will coordinate the raffle items as well as the correspondence portions.  Please contact Kim Pomeroy (733-5513) if your are willing to step up and head either the raffle or correspondence areas.  If you can't lead a group but want to help support the Shop in one of the four areas, please, please call Kim.  P.S.  A huge "thank you" to toe anonymous donor of the Shrek candy jars.  The students are going to LOVE them!

HOTLINE:  Everything went fine (or we haven't heard!).  If you have questions or concerns, call Heather Von Lehmden (733-3337).

SPIRITWEAR:

GRANDPARENTS'/SPECIAL PERSONS' DAY:  Grandparents and special persons will be invited to join OLSH students and teachers for a special morning program on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break (November 22).  Please see the flier coming home with your youngest today.

SCRIP:  Christmas is coming!  Scrip gift certificates make great gifts, and we can order them from nearly 500 stores.  Sometimes they become unavailable as we get closer to Christmas, so order early!  They will be sold after all Masses beginning Saturday/Sunday, November 5/6.  If you have Internet access, you can print a copy of all participating stores from this website:  http://www.glscrip.com.  Click on "Retailers", where you will find an option for a printer-friendly version that you can print yourself.  There is also a list of local stores from which we can purchase scrip certificates (http://www.appleseed123.com/merchantlist.html).  You can now e-mail your scrip order to:  orderscrip@fuse.net.  It will be ready for you on the next scrip sale weekend, or we can arrange another delivery method.  If you have any questions, please call Sandy Champlin at 733-5235.

MARKETING STRATEGIES:  You may still submit an entry for our tagline contest.  (As a reminder, a tagline is a one-line statement or sentence that defines an organization; i.e., "Values for a Lifetime".)  Just jot down your idea on a piece of paper and send it in to the school office with your child.  We would also like to have a few more personalized letters from a current OLSH parent to a prospective OLSH parent, the purpose of which would be to advertise the benefits a current student is receiving and to let prospective parents know what an investment an education from OLSH can be.  These letters should be typed on a Word document, then saved to a disk (which you can send to the school office); or e-mail your letter directly to the school office.  If you can, please add your signature to your letter.  We will do the rest.  We'd really like to have a letter from a parent at each grade level to help in marketing our well-kept secret--OLSH!  Thank you for your anticipated help.

BENEFIT CONCERT:  The First United Church of Christ (5808 Glenview Avenue in College Hill) is sponsoring a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.  Young musicians in the Cincinnati area have been invited to perform in half-hour segments from 1 p.m. 'til 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.  You are invited to stay for the full three hours or attend any of the half-hour concerts on that day for a donation at the door.  Paul, Leah, and Robert Anderson will be among the musicians performing at this benefit.  Come support a worthy cause!

NURSE'S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse's Office for Friday, November 4, are Janice Miller (8 a.m. 'til 11 a.m.) and Tamara Anderson (11 a.m. 'til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!
