SPAGHETTI DINNER:  A big "thank you" from Julie Curry to all who made last Sunday's Spaghetti Dinner a success.  Our profits exceeded $1100!  There was a shortage of help and baked goods going in to the dinner; but thanks to you volunteers who gave more time and baked more desserts, the shortage was covered.  Thank you to Bob Moeggenberg for his help and to Shari Torbeck, who donated her portion of the Split-the-Pot winnings back to PTO!  A special "thank you" to the following students who stayed after school last Friday to help set up:  Patrick Bennett, Nick, Evan, and Lauren Curry, Will Flavin, Keith Kennedy, Andrew, Matt, and Andrew Pryse, and Luke Shadley.  We also want to recognize the following students for their help at the dinner:  Paul Anderson, Nick, Evan, and Lauren Curry, Jessica Eades, Paige Fisher, Patrick Goddard, Olivia and Christian Kettler, Kirsten Lucas, Chelsea Mehbod, Danny and Sam Miller, Katie Rieman, Kelly Schoenberger, and Leighton Vaske.  Thanks also to Mrs. Peter and her daughter, Ashley, for making the wonderful Spaghetti Dinner signs for the Activity Center lobby.  If we missed mentioning any volunteer, we apologize and offer you our sincere thanks.

HIGH SCHOOL VISITS:  Several area parochial high schools will visit our eighth graders next week.  These visits precede these schools' Open Houses and Entrance Tests scheduled for November and December.  Your eighth-grade student will bring home literature after each school's visit containing dates and times for these upcoming events.

PARENT MARKETING LETTER:  I am adding an element to our prospective student inquiry.  A number of steps will be followed, and one of these steps would be a personalized letter from a current parent to a prospective parent; ideally, the current parent would have a student on the same grade level as the prospective parent's student.  The purpose of the letter is to reinforce the benefits a current student is receiving and to let prospective parents know that OLSH is really worth the investment!  All that you as a parent would have to do is send a disk with your letter on it or email your letter to the school office, where we will save it to a disk.  We can then fill in names and send the letter on school letterhead.  If you have a way of adding your signature to the letter, that would be ideal; otherwise, we will add your signature.  Please type your letter in a Word document.  I would really like to have a letter from a parent at all grade levels.  Thank you for helping us with this new marketing phase.

MARKET DAY:  November is Market Day Pie Month.  We will have two pie-related "activities" coming up.  One of these is "Pennies for Pies".  We are having a penny collection (other forms of currency are acceptable, too!) to see how many pies we, as a school, can purchase to donate for our Student Government Thanksgiving Food Drive.  You may send in your donation with your child; there will be a container at the school entrance beginning Monday, October 24, where your child may drop in any donations.  We are also conducting a pie-selling contest.  For details, please see pie order forms coming home with every student today.  The winning classroom will enjoy a pie and ice cream party on Tuesday, November 22. Questions?  Call Lisa Schoenberger (733-4707) or Valerie Grein (891-5830.  Thanks for your continued support!

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL UPDATE:  There have been some time changes made for open gym for the splitting of the fourth- and fifth-grade teams on November 6.  The fourth-grade open gym time is from 4 p.m. 'til 5 p.m., and the fifth-grade open gym time is 5 p.m. 'til 6 p.m.  Tryouts for seventh- and eighth-grade teams will be announced at a later date.  If you have any questions, please contact Laurie Hoffman at 733-9380.

YAC MONTHLY RAFFLE:  Due to the delay in mailing raffle tickets, there will be no drawing in October.  Instead, we will have two drawings in November.  It's not too late to turn in your tickets.  There are 36 chances to win!

NURSE'S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse's Office for Friday, October 28, are Shari Torbeck (8 a.m. 'til 11 a.m.) and Karen Bigler (11 a.m. 'til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!

TAGLINE CONTEST:  Our school is looking for a tagline.  A tagline is a one-line statement or sentence that defines us.  You might call it a verbal logo.  When someone sees it, he immediately associates that tagline with Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School.  Some examples of taglines are:  "Values for a Lifetime", "Faith in Every Student", and "Reaching Excellence One Student at a Time".  You may notice that these taglines are religiously or academically oriented.  That is the direction our tagline should take also, since Catholic identity and academics are what we are about.  Please use the form below to submit your tagline to the school office.  All students, parents, and alumni are encouraged to submit a tagline.  All submissions are due by the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November 22).
