LOOKING AHEAD:  Please mark your calendars for the very popular Grandparents/Special Persons Day, which will be held on Tuesday, November 22.  More information will be sent home in early November.  Questions can be directed to Jennifer Gallo (769-0602).

PTO SPAGHETTI DINNER:  Make plans to join us for OLSH's 23rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, October 16 from 4 p.m. 'til 7 p.m. in the Activity Center.  Please check the flyer coming home today for details and contact Julie Curry (769-9106) with questions or to volunteer.

PAUSE (PAWS) FOR PRAISE:  We are giving out a new award this year to recognize those students who go that extra step.  We expect our students to be polite, respectful, caring, and helpful; but very often we see a student doing the "extra".  During September, the following students received Paws for Praise certificates and a Paw Power pin:  Alex Smeal, Alexandria Herbert, Jessica Smith, Lance Lutts, Brock Stephens, and Tyler Schaeper.

PLAYGROUND WORK:  Thank you to Mrs. Barb Craven's Cadette Girl Scout Troop and OLSH alumnae Molly O'Brien and Jenn Craven for the outstanding playground stenciling of the world map.  Quite a job--and so beneficial for the students!

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS:  All payments and/or books must be turned in to the school office NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11.

SCHOOL PICTURES:  Lifetouch will be here next Thursday, October 13, for Picture Day.  All students may be out of uniform for these photographs.  (Please refer to page 25 of the Parent Student Handbook for appropriate dress guidelines.)   Your children will be bringing home an order form today.  Please return the completed order envelope with payment enclosed with your child.  His homeroom teacher will hold on to the envelopes until picture day, when each student will hand his order to the photographer.  No child will have an individual picture taken unless he has an order form and payment on Thursday, October 13.

DRAMA CLUB:  Drama Club for new members started up this past Thursday, October 6.  All members will begin meeting together next Thursday, October 13 and will meet every Thursday after that from 2:30 p.m. 'til 3:30 p.m.

LIVING ROSARY:  You are invited to join us next Friday, October 14, following the 8:15 a.m. Communion Service as our eighth graders (under the direction of Religion teacher Mrs. Wendy Schworer) present the Living Rosary.  Each bead of the rosary will be represented by a student who will lead the congregation in prayer.  It is a beautiful and moving way to pray the rosary and honor Our Blessed Mother.

PTO MAJOR FUNDRAISER:  Each year, the PTO raises half of its operating income from the Magazine Drive.  I have been thanked many times for chairing this event and congratulated on exceeding our goal.  The real credit goes to all the students and parents who work so hard to make this fundraiser a great success.  I send my appreciation to the homeroom teachers, staff, Barb Adelmann, and Fr. Jack for their cooperation, especially with the Pig Pageant this year!  Thanks to the Vonderhaars, who donated the toppings for the Ice Cream Social.  A special thank you also to all the volunteers who checked orders, counted money, handed out prizes, and scooped ice cream.  End-of-sale prizes and Kids First products were delivered yesterday (Thursday, October 6).  If you have a defective item or are missing any part of your order, please notify me in the next few days either by phone (984-4597) or e-mail (pendres@cinci.rr.com).  Thank you for your support!  --Pam Kennedy

HOTLINE:  The testing of the Hotline went okay as far as a test goes.  However, it needs improvement if we are going to use it for an actual school closing.  If you are not comfortable calling families at 6 a.m., please let us know so that we can take you off as a caller.  We have children getting on the bus as early as 6:45 a.m.; therefore, we need to start calling at 6 a.m. so as to give those families ample time to make arrangements for the day.  Also, if you would rather watch Channel 12 to find out if OLSH is closed (instead of getting a phone call), let us know so we can take you off the list of people to be called.  The purpose of the Hotline is to help families find out in an efficient manner when our school is closed so that they can find babysitters or whatever else they need to do.   If we have people waiting to call families or someone complaining when he receives a phone call, the Hotline will not work in an efficient manner.  Please contact Heather Von Lehmden  (733-3337 or hvon@msn.com) if you would like your name taken off the list as a caller or as a "receiver".   Please also notify me if you did not receive a call on Wednesday morning, October 5.  Thanks for your cooperation!

PTO MEETING:  Our September PTO meeting had a great turnout!  Thank you to all who came to help discuss our plans for the new school year.  Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19.  All agenda items for this meeting must be turned in by Wednesday, October 12 to make publication.  You may send items through school marked "PTO mail" or e-mail Jamie Brenner at boomer473@aol.com.  Thank you!

T-SHIRT DESIGN WINNER:  Student Government would like to thank everyone who participated in the Spirit Day t-shirt design contest.  We congratulate our winner, Mrs. O'Brien.  Look for the t-shirt order form in next week's packet.

2005-06 YEARBOOK:  We need your help to make sure that everyone is represented in our 2005-06 yearbook.  This year we are able to accept digital images for use in the book.  Please send your photos or digital image cd's to Alison O'Neill c/o Ellen in 5B.

We still need a parent to coordinate the sports section of our yearbook.  This position requires a minimal time commitment.  We will have one organizational meeting this year, and the paste-up process has been computerized.  This means you can assemble the pages at your convenience at home.  If you are able to help, please contact Alison O'Neill at 769-4853.

NURSE'S OFFICE:  Volunteers in the Nurse's Office for Friday, October 14, are Gayle Lucas (8 a.m. 'til 11 a.m.) and Susan Eades (11 a.m.-2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!

POLICY ON OPENING UP CLASSROOMS

It has been the policy of the parish that requests to open classroom doors

on Saturday evening or Sunday morning be refused.

This includes calling custodians at home to have them come up

and let students into classrooms to pick up forgotten items.

Please honor this policy.
