ADDITIONAL STAFF CHANGES:  Because of budget cuts, we will lose two dedicated and hardworking staff members at the end of this school year.  Mrs. Mary Jo Eggenberger, all-school teachers' aide and substitute teacher and Mrs. Jeanne Schoeny, head librarian, former office secretary, and long-time volunteer will not return to OLSH next year.  We will certainly miss these two outstanding women, not only for the amount of work they do but also because of their willing dispositions and first-class character.  We wish them success in the next step in their lives.  There will be no other planned changes made in programs for the 2005-06 school year.

THANK YOU:  Mrs. O'Brien wishes to thank all of those involved in performing as well as producing the Drama Club play (which was presented April 28).  Many thanks also from Mrs. O'Brien for the generous Scrip gift certificate!

THANK YOU:  Thank you to Sheila Sieder and Laura Benson for their help on Thursday, May 5 during the Kindergarten Visit.  Laura had Spiritwear out for new parents to view, and she and Sheila were both on hand to answer any questions they could.  It was a good way for parents to wait for their children while sharing some information, enjoying refreshments, and meeting each other.

Thank you also to Heather VonLehmden and the moms who helped her with the Mother's Day Flower Sale on Friday.  We hope all moms enjoyed their beautiful blooms and had a wonderful Mother's Day.

ORIENTATION MEETING:   Mrs. Adelmann and Mrs. O'Brien will meet with parents of all new incoming students (all grades) on Tuesday evening, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.  They will be available to answer any questions these new parents may have.  In addition, Mike Hunter of Educational Outfitters will be on hand with samples of our navy and plaid skorts and other school apparel for parents to view.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS ART PROGRAM:  Next Wednesday and Thursday will be the final days of the spring session of the Young Rembrandts Art Program.  We plan to have this program return next fall and will advise you of that via the Principal's Bulletin after the start of next school year.

FINE ARTS DAY:  Please join us on Thursday, May 19 for Fine Arts Day.  Mrs. Rieman has been working with the students on a musical concert with a country theme.  You are invited to attend the concert and then move on over to the school building to view students' artwork in the hallways.  Students may be out of uniform on Thursday for Fine Arts Day.  Acceptable clothing includes:  long or capri jeans (no jean shorts or jean skirts); long or short overalls; shirts with sleeves (either solid or plaid button-down or solid t-shirts or a t-shirt with an appropriate design).   No tanks or tummy-revealing shirts may be worn.  If you feel your child will be too warm in long jeans or overalls, please send him to school in his uniform shorts.  Miscellaneous items that may be worn include cowboy hats, straw hats, cowboy boots, bandanas, vests, and suspenders.  No guns of any kind are permitted (squirt, cowboy, etc.).

GRADE 5 PLAY:  We congratulate the fifth grade on their successful production of "Once Upon A Parable" last Tuesday, May 10.  This biblical play will be repeated for the enjoyment of our students at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, May 20.  If you missed the first presentation or would like to see it again, please join us on Friday.

FRISCH MARIONETTES:  Plan to join us as these marionettes present The Jungle Book in the Activity Center at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20.  Students from Ss. Peter and Paul School will also be here for this production.  All are welcome!

SPRING PORTRAITS:  If you did not return your child's school portraits or send in payment for the ones you are keeping, please do so NO LATER THAN Monday, May 16.  (You might want to check your child's backpack just in case he forgot to turn pictures/money in to his teacher.)  There is a reminder flyer coming home today with your child--please disregard it if you have already returned your pictures or sent in your money.   Lifetouch will stop by OLSH one day next week for their final pickup of money and returned portraits.

FROM THE LIBRARY:  This week was the last week students could check books out of the school library for the year.  All books should be returned and all fines must be paid on your child's regular library day next week, May 16-20.  Please send in the replacement cost for any lost books.  Thank you.

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS:  If you have any library books checked out, please remember to bring them with you when you come to work at the library.  Many "thanks" to all of you who helped in the library this year.  We couldn't do it without you!

YEARBOOK:  Eighth-grade students/parents--please return the eighth grade questionnaire to the school office if you have not already done so.  This information will be included in the 2004-05 yearbook.  The yearbook committee is also looking for photos from the May Crowning ceremony.  Please send these to Alison O'Neill c/o Ellen in 4-T.   If you would like to order a yearbook, please look for the order form coming home today with your child.  These orders are due in to the school office by next Friday, May 20, (not March 24, as indicated on the order form).

SPIRITWEAR:  Please look for Spiritwear order forms coming home today.  All orders and money are due by next Friday, May 20.  Make your check payable to OLSH YAC and send orders to the office marked "Spiritwear".  Parents, please check to see what items your child will need to begin the school year next August.  If items are needed, your order must be placed now.  All orders will be placed over the summer, and delivery will be made to your child's homeroom sometime during the first week of school.  If you have any questions, please call Laura Benson at 984-6984.

OLSH YAC FALL SPORTS:  Sign-ups for Fall sports (grades 3-8 boys' football, grades 3-8 girls' basketball, grades 5-8 girls' cheerleading, and grades 1-8 boys' and girls' soccer) will take place the next two weekends (May 14/15 and May 21/22) in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center after all Masses.  The cost is $35 per player for basketball, cheerleading, and soccer and $105 for football (plus $30 for a jersey if required).  There is a late fee for registration after these two weekends.  There is a sign-up form coming home today--please fill it out and turn it in at the Activity Center during sign-up times noted above.  NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH SCHOOL.  Contact Ed Riordan at 769-3893 or e-mail him at eriordan@zoomtown.com with questions.

SUMMER TUTORING:  Would your child benefit from summer tutoring?  Whether to master concepts not fully understood during the school year or to maintain skills for the next school year, tutoring can be valuable time spent.  My name is Mary Jo Eggenberger.  As you may know, I have been a teacher's aide/substitute teacher at OLSH for several years.  If you are interested in tutoring for your child (those entering grades 1-6), please feel free to call me at home (563-2079) after 3 p.m. or leave a message for me at the school office.  I will be happy to return your call.

OLSH SUMMER FESTIVAL:  Thank you for your generosity so far in collections received for the Grocery Booth.  If your child brought in at least two items and he did not receive an out-of-uniform pass, please call Lisa McCabe at 755-0893.  You can still send in items.  As a reminder, Grade 1 can supply cleaning supplies; Grade 2--paper products; Grade 3--packaged food (i.e., pasta, rice, mac and cheese, etc.); Grade 4--baking goods; Grade 5--cereal; Grade 6--snack food; Grade 7--two liters of soda; and Grade 8--canned goods.  Please call Lisa with questions or to volunteer in the Grocery Booth during the festival.

NURSE'S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse's Office for Friday, May 20 are Shari Torbeck (8 a.m. 'til 11 a.m.) and Janice Miller (11 a.m. 'til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!

LOST AND FOUND:   A DVD of the movie The Bridge on the River Kwai was found in the lower level of the Parish Center.  Please call the Parish Center (733-4950) if this DVD belongs to you.
