HAPPENINGS AT OLSH:  As we begin planning for next year, there are some changes that will occur.  We want to inform you of these changes.  As you are aware, we currently have one second grade.  This will continue into the third grade.  Next year's second grade will again be two classes (due to the current first-grade enrollment).  The first grade for next year will be one class, as only 24 students have registered to date.  The parish can no longer afford the luxury of two classes for this small number of students.  Changes in staffing have not yet been finalized, but Mrs. Robinson has decided to stay at home.  We ask for your patience and prayers for a successful school year.

SPRING PICTURES:  All students will be photographed on Thursday, April 14.  You will not receive an order form prior to picture day--you will receive your child's processed portrait package in a few weeks and can decide at that time if you wish to buy it or return it to Lifetouch through school.   Students may be out of uniform for these spring portraits.  We need two parent volunteers to help out on picture day.  Please call the school office if you are available (and willing) to help on Thursday from 7:45 a.m. 'til around 1 p.m.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS:  The spring session of the Young Rembrandts Art Program will begin next Wednesday, April 13.  If there is enough response, we may have a second session on Thursdays,  beginning on April 14.  Participants will hear from the director of the program (Carolyn Sendelbach) as to how many sessions there will be.  Please note that these are all new classes, not a repeat of the winter session completed before Easter.

MELODRAMA:  The Drama Club's production scheduled for next Thursday, April 14, is on hold due to Mrs. O'Brien's dad's health issues.  We will send information home next week under separate cover about when the production will take place.

HIGH SCHOOL DECISIONS:  Parents of current eighth graders--please call the office or send a note in with your child advising us about your choice of high school for your eighth grader.  We would appreciate this information as soon as possible.  Thank you.

MARKET DAY:  The winner of the spiral-sliced ham given away by Market Day prior to Easter was Cindy Vail, aunt of Molly and Chris Ernstes.  This ham was valued at $38; we appreciate Cindy's support of Market Day and hope that her family enjoyed the ham.  Also, please mark your calendars for our summer sales:  June 8, July 13 and August 17.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  The Scholastic Book Fair is coming next week (beginning Monday, April 11); and this year you can shop for your books online, too!  This season, we are offering another way for you to add to your child's home, classroom, or school library.  You can shop online from a popular selection of books anytime from now until April 24.  You may order individual titles and collections for your home or donate the books you purchase to your child's classroom or school library.  Simply access www.scholastic.com/shopbookfairs and type in our special Book Fair code (2031626) at checkout.  All orders placed online will be processed at the end of our Online Fair and shipped FREE to our school in about ten days.  See the flyer coming home with your youngest child today for more information.

ONE LUCKY STUDENT WILL WIN $100 IN FREE BOOKS

AT THE SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR!!

Any student making a purchase will be entered in a drawing for $100 worth of free books.  Fifteen additional names will be drawn for our free poster giveaway.  The winner of the $100 Free Book Prize will be announced on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m.  We will arrange a time for the winner to choose his books after one of the weekend Masses.  Winners of the posters will be notified on Tuesday morning, April 19 and will make their selections then.  On Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17, after all Masses, our Book Fair will be open to all parents, students, and parishioners.  Parents--you are also welcome to come during your child(ren)'s scheduled library time or anytime during the school day.  All proceeds benefit our school library.

VISIT WITH AUTHOR:  OLSH's second and third graders will visit with author Ron Roy on Wednesday, April 27 at the Sharonville Library, where he will be signing books.  Ron Roy is the author of A Thousand Pails of Water and is now writing some very popular mysteries for each letter of the alphabet, The A to Z Mysteries.  We hope to have a supply of Mr. Roy's books available at our Scholastic Book Fair next week if your child would like to purchase one to take with him on his field trip to get signed by this author.

READING CLEAN-UP DAY:  Again this year, the City of Reading will be sponsoring "Reading Litter Clean-Up Day."  Our 2005 event will be coordinated as part of the "Keep Cincinnati Beautiful/Great American Clean-Up" happening throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.  Reading Litter Clean-Up Day is planned for Saturday, April 23.  Volunteers should report to Koenig Park (at the corner of Columbia and Koenig Avenue) at 10 a.m., where plastic bags and rubber gloves will be distributed.  We will need adults to work with children.  Filled bags can be left on curbs, where city workers will pick them up.  All volunteers should return to Koenig Park around noon for a picnic lunch and for the many prizes to be given away as a "thank you" for their help.  Please contact Carol Bullock-Carpenter at 733-4857 to let her know if you will be participating in this event.
