FIRST COMMUNION:  Thank you to Mrs. Rohlfs (second-grade teacher) and Mrs. Julie Gorsuch (CCD teacher), whose students made their First Communion last Sunday.  We hope it was a meaningful and religious experience for the children and their families.

BABY NEWS:  Congratulations to the Locaputo family, who welcomed son Lorenzo Robert on Friday, April 22.  He weighed 8 lbs. 5 ozs. and was 19 1/2 inches long.  We're sure he is being smothered with kisses from siblings Sarah, Olivia, and Mario (not to mention mom and dad)!

KINDERGARTEN VISIT:  Next year's first graders will visit with our current first graders on Thursday, May 5.  They will spend a half-hour (1:30 p.m. 'til 2 p.m.) together in the classroom as a way to see what school will be like next year.  Parents of these incoming first graders, you are invited to meet each other in the Community Room while you wait for your children.  There you may also view Spiritwear and talk to a couple of our "seasoned" moms about life at OLSH while enjoying some refreshments.

MAY CROWNING:  Please join us next Friday for our all-school Mass followed by May Crowning.  Eighth grader Lisa Coby will crown Mary.  Her court will include eighth graders Caitlin Bermingham and Breanne Boyd along with Lisa's first-grade buddy, Graci Doll.   If weather permits, we will crown the white statue of Mary outside; otherwise, the ceremony will take place in church.

MAY CROWNING FLOWERS:  If you did not order a carnation for May Crowning, remember to send a flower in with your child on Friday, May 6.  If you did order, we will have your flower here at school on that day.  Thank you.

MOTHER'S DAY FLOWER SALE:  The Mother's Day Flower Sale will take place on Friday, May 6.  Potted annuals will be on sale for $2.50 each (one plant per student, please).  Call Heather VonLehmden (733-3337) with any questions.

REMINDER:  There will be no school on Monday, May 9, so that our teachers may attend an in-service.

SUNDAY COMICS NEEDED:  Thanks to those who responded to our request and sent in the comic section of the Sunday Enquirer last week.  We still need more!  Please send them to the library again this week.  The bookmarks that Mrs. Engel is making for the children are great!  Thanks again for your help.

PTA:  Please forward any PTA meeting agenda items to Jamie Brenner by May 6.  Our final meeting of the 2004-05 school year is Wednesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Parish Center.  Remember--if you are currently eligible for the tuition drawing, you must be present at this final meeting to be included in the drawing.

PTA is compiling a list of resources that OLSH organizations regularly use for various events.  If you have any information regarding one of these companies, please share it at the May PTA meeting.  We are looking for any companies that OLSH uses to provide paper products, flowers, catering, etc.

YEARBOOK:   If you would like to see your child represented in the yearbook, we need photos from you!  Send them to Alison O'Neill c/o Ellen in 4-T.  Photos cannot be returned.

MARKET DAY:  Want a chance to win a $25 Market Day gift certificate?  Check the flyer coming home with your youngest today for additional information.

FINE ARTS DAY:  Plan to join us as we celebrate the arts on Fine Arts Day, Thursday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in the Activity Center.  Students will perform a musical concert with a country theme.   In addition, student artwork will be displayed in the school hallways.  Check future Principal's Bulletins for further details.

FROM THE FRIENDS OF BATAHOLA:  We received a letter from the Friends of Batahola thanking us for the money we collected during Lent and sent to them.  We print part of that letter here…

"Once again, we want to thank you for your generous gift of $1631

to our mission work.  Your concern and generosity gives us courage

and strength to continue our commitment and our efforts."

                                                                                Peace and joy,

                                                                                Jeanne McManus

                                                                                Secretary, Friends of Batahola

As a reminder, the Friends of Batahola is a tax-exempt organization which helps support an extraordinary cultural center in Batahola, Nicaragua.  It provides financial assistance to needy youth and adults to attend local schools and universities.  It is satisfying to realize that money donated by our schoolchildren is being used in another part of the world to further education there.  It is much appreciated by them!

OLSH SUMMER FESTIVAL:  Don't forget to send in items for the Grocery Booth.  If your child brings in two items, he will receive an out-of-uniform pass good for Monday, May 16.  Make sure his first and last name and homeroom are on each item so that he gets credit for them.  Out-of-uniform passes will be distributed on Friday, May 13.  We have broken down the list as follows:  Grade 1--cleaning supplies; Grade 2--paper products; Grade 3--packaged food (i.e., pasta, rice, mac and cheese, etc.); Grade 4--baking goods; Grade 5--cereal; Grade 6--snack food; Grade 7--two liters of soda; and Grade 8--canned goods.  Please call Lisa McCabe (755-0893) with questions or to volunteer in the Grocery Booth during the festival.

NURSE'S OFFICE:  Volunteers for the Nurse's Office for Friday, May 6, are Samantha Blum (8 a.m. 'til 11 a.m.) and Sherry Mechley (11 a.m. 'til 2 p.m.).  Thanks, moms!

SCHOOL CALENDAR:  An abbreviated calendar for the 2005-06 school year is being sent home today with your youngest.  A more detailed calendar will be included in family packets that will be available for two weekends in August prior to the start of the new school year.

LOST AND FOUND:  If you lost a watch recently, please check in at the school office or call us (733-5225) to identify it.

Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week.

You'll probably never know how much time and effort

your child's teacher puts into her job during a normal week

(and most weeks are far from "normal").

We are blessed to have a great group of deeply dedicated teachers here at OLSH.

Take a minute out of your busy day

to let your child's teacher know that you appreciate the hours she spends with your child.
