CONFIRMATION: Congratulations to our 49
eighth graders and 20 CCD students who were confirmed on Tuesday evening,
February 22. It was a well-attended and
beautiful ceremony performed by Mark Burger, Head of St. Andrew Deanery. Special thanks go out to Mrs. Wendy
Schworer, Mrs. Debi Mace, Mr. Jim Champlin, and Mrs. Janet Geraci for their
time in preparing these students for this important sacrament.
DRAMA CLUB: There will be no Drama Club
this coming Tuesday, March 1. Selected

Drama Club members.
FISH FRY: The OLSH PTA will hold its first Fish Fry of
this Lenten season this Friday, March 4 from 4:30 p.m. 'til 7 p.m. Come join friends and family for a delicious
meal, a kids' activity center, and a message board where you can write messages
to your friends. If you would still
like to volunteer, please call Melissa Fahr (761-7332), Mary Beth Armstrong
(793-4574), or Marc Zeuch (769-4735).
They would welcome your help.
LENTEN RAFFLE: Winners of the first teacher
raffle for this Lenten season were:
Olivia Peters (3-B) and Emily Janszen (4-D)--sundaes in the middle of
the week for them and three of their friends; Kristin Sutor (3-P) and Joanie
Engel (5-L)--a night at the movies (with a snack) for them and a friend each;
Kirsten Lucas (1-O)--lunch and a game with Mrs. O'Brien; and Ashley Peter and
Brian Torbeck (both 4-T)--lunch from McDonald's for them and a friend each.
Items in this coming
week's raffle (to be awarded on Wednesday, March 2) are: one $5 gift certificate from Graeter's; one
$5 Blockbuster gift certificate; a container of Smartees; and 10 free 30-minute
guitar lessons from Mrs. Rieman (a $50 value--the only cost to the winner is
the price of the instruction book!).
Students can buy raffle tickets (25 cents each or five for $1) in Ms.
Schafer's fifth-grade classroom any morning before school. Remember--all proceeds from these raffles
will be donated to our Lenten Nicaragua collection. Students can also donate money to their individual homeroom
Nicaragua donation jars, which are brought to song practice on Wednesdays and
added to the all-school jar.
POST SPELLING
BEE RESULTS: Seventh grader Keith Kennedy participated in
The Cincinnati Post Spelling Bee on
Wednesday, February 23. Keith came in
12th in his division in this regional competition. Keith missed on the word
"ensemble" after successfully spelling "quesadilla" (thanks
to the movie Napoleon Dynamite!). He will not advance beyond this regional competition, but we are
proud of his success and representation of OLSH.
CONGRATULATIONS: Four of
our eighth-grade boys were offered an academic scholarship for their
outstanding performance on the Moeller entrance exam. Congratulations to Chris Champlin, Andrew Mulderig, Joe Nurre,
and Joe Wernke.
Seven of our eighth
graders scored well enough on the entrance test given by The Summit Country Day
School to be considered for scholarships to the school. The following students scored above the 90th
percentile and had outstanding overall applications: Chris Champlin, Nick Clark, Aly Eagan, Eric Gammarino, Mark
Gottschlich, Joe Nurre, and Joe Wernke.
Chris, Nick, and Joe Wernke have accepted scholarships and will be recognized
at a Scholarship Reception on March 2.
Congratulations to these students.
