TSUNAMI RELIEF: We have all been stunned by
the images of the tsunami that hit South Asia over the holiday. We will be collecting donations to send to
Catholic Relief Services to help in their effort to aid tsunami victims' families/survivors. We have established Thursday, January 20
(Inauguration Day) as the official day to collect money. As OLSH students and staff enjoy a pizza
lunch on that day (as a celebration of the results of our own Election Day mock
vote), we will take time to appreciate our blessings and remember those who are
struggling to obtain food and clean water in the countries affected by the
tsunami disaster. However, we will
accept donations any time between now and then and will forward them on to
Catholic Relief Services. Make checks
out to Catholic Relief Services and specify "Tsunami Emergency" on
the check.
CHOIR NOTES: There will be no choir
practice for either Half Notes or Upper Notes until further notice. We will probably start up again in February,
and members will be notified when we are ready to start again.
WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL: The
awning outside the school entrance has been a godsend these past few days with
all the cold rain we've had. We very
much appreciate the idea, design, and funds that made this protection possible.
BULLYING PROGRAM: On
Tuesday of this past week, Mr. Jim Bisenius worked with all the students on
practical and effective methods of dealing with bullies. He taught the students that bullies like to
"eat" Fear, Attention, and Things…"FAT". He explained how they could
"starve" bullying behavior and how to control the different parts of
their bodies when they are picked on by a bully, as this is how Fear signals are given off. The students also learned how not to give a
bully Attention or Things. Teachers had additional training after school. Mr. Bisenius left three DVDs for parents to
watch with their children. These will
be available through the office at a parent's request. We also have packets of information if
anyone is interested in the steps of the program. Please also check Mr. Bisenius' website: www.bullyproofingyouth.com.
OLSH PUBLICITY BROCHURES: Mrs.
Alice Boothe has designed and printed a beautiful brochure to advertise
OLSH. We have some available in the
office and would like to get them out to the public. Please call the office if you know of a local public place
frequented by families and where you would be willing to check to see if we
could place some of these brochures. We
thank you in advance for your help.
PSAS FORMS:
Please call the school
office (733-5225) if you would like us to send home a Private School Aid
Service application for student financial aid for next school year. The postmark deadline for the application is
April 1, 2005; so call early for the application if you are considering
requesting financial aid.
YOUNG REMBRANDTS PROGRAM: We are
excited to announce that we are planning to hold a Young Rembrandts drawing
class at OLSH. The class will be held
on Wednesdays after school from 2:40 p.m. 'til 3:40 p.m. for students currently
in grades 1 through 6. We plan to start
on Wednesday, February 2 and have the classes run through Wednesday, March
23. Parents of students in grades 1 through
6, please check your child's folder for a flyer coming home today regarding
registration for this program. PLEASE
SEND COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORMS WITH PAYMENT (make checks payable to Young
Rembrandts) BACK TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE.
We will collect them for a representative from Young Rembrandts to pick
up.
YAC SPRING SPORTS REGISTRATION:
Registration for spring sports (baseball, softball, soccer, and Jr. High
track) will begin next weekend (January 15/16) after all the Masses. Please sign up in the Tiger Room of the
Activity Center.
CARTRIDGE RECYCLING: Remember
to send in to the school office any empty ink and toner cartridges. We are working with Staples, who will pay us
$1 for each eligible cartridge. Call
Julie Gorsuch (733-5853) with questions.
LOST AND FOUND: We received a report in the
school office before the Christmas break of some money that was lost. If you are the person who reported this,
please call us to claim it.

of delicious Geneva chocolate caramel Santas and a cute little wooden snowman

your gifts and didn't want your thoughtfulness to go unnoticed. Thank you very much for thinking of me. Merry Christmas to you and your families and
a very Happy New Year! --Jeanne Schoeny
