LETTERWRITING REQUEST:  As part of Catholic Schools Week (which runs from Monday, January 31 through Sunday, February 6), the Catholic Conference of Ohio asks that parents write their elected officials regarding the reasons they send their children to a Catholic school, stressing the importance of legislation that assists all parents (especially low- and middle-income) in exercising their rights to choose the school they believe will best meet their child's needs.  These letters should be mailed directly to the addresses listed so they arrive by February 2, 2005.

SCHOLARS:  When we recognized students in last week's Principal's Bulletin for winning academic and leadership scholarships to The Summit Country Day School, we were not aware of two more of our eighth graders who also won those scholarships.   Congratulations to both Alyson Eagan and Nick Clark.  It should also be said that all of the OLSH students who took the SCD Entrance Test scored above the 90th percentile.  We appreciate parents notifying us in the school office when their child has received recognition of this sort.  We don't want to skip over anyone who deserves a pat on the back!

FROM THE LIBRARY:  Kids!  Clown around, have fun, and read!  For the first time, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus is partnering with the Public Library to help encourage children to explore the wonders of reading books through the Three Ring Reading Club.  From January 24 through February 18, boys and girls through age 12 can sign up for the Reading Club at any of the Public Library's 42 locations.  For each book read, children will receive a small prize:  a sticker for one book, a bookmark for the second, a clown nose for the third book, and a free ticket voucher to a weekday performance of The Greatest Show on Earth in the U.S. Bank Arena  (March 2-6, 2005) for the fourth book.

YEARBOOK:  Please send any photos you have for the yearbook to Alison O'Neill (c/o Ellen O'Neill, 4-T).  Photos cannot be returned.  Contact Alison at 769-4853 with any questions.

YAC SPRING SPORTS SIGN-UPS:  This weekend (January 22/23) is the final weekend to sign up for baseball, softball, soccer, junior-high track, and boys' volleyball.  Sign-ups are after all Masses in the Tiger Room of the Activity Center.  NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH SCHOOL.
