HOTLINE TESTING: We will test the hotline
this coming Tuesday at 6 a.m. (the time the hotline calls would be made in the
event of a school closing). Hotline
callers--please check in your child's weekly folder for your list of families
to contact on Tuesday morning and make those calls when you are notified that
morning. All families--please notify
the school office (733-5225) on Tuesday if your family does not receive a call.
SCHOOL PORTRAITS: Today
your children will be bringing home their Fall school portraits. If your child was absent on October 14, you
will be receiving an order form for retakes scheduled for Monday, November
22. If your child will have his picture
retaken on November 22, please be sure to return his original packet on that
day so that the photographer can retrieve information from the bar code on the
package. They will reprint the same package
you ordered originally.
GRANDPARENTS/SPECIAL PERSONS DAY: Please
look for a reservation form coming home with your child today for this special
event to be held on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November 23).
ATTENTION EIGHTH GRADERS/PARENTS: Area
parochial high schools will be hosting Open Houses and administering entrance
exams over the next month or so.
Ursuline and MND held their Open Houses last Sunday. This Sunday students can visit St. Ursula Academy
and St. X (see above for times). Mt.
Notre Dame and Ursuline's entrance exams will be administered on Saturday,
November 20. (Please arrive at the
school no later than 8:45 a.m. for the 9 a.m. test start time.) Students who plan to take either test must
register for it by Wednesday, November 17.
Both schools will accept a score on the other's entrance test, but
students must fill out a registration form and pay the $25 test fee to each
school to which scores are to be sent.
(For example, if you take the test at Ursuline but think you may also be
interested in attending MND and want your Ursuline test score sent to MND, you
must register at both schools.) Please
call the schools (MND--821-3044, ext. 124; UA--791-5791, ext. 158) for further
information/clarification. Most
students have just completed the eight-week High School Entrance Exam Prep
Class; we hope these classes prove to be helpful to our eighth graders as they
take their entrance exams at the various high schools. Best of luck to all of you!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING! Scrip
gift certificates will be sold after all Masses beginning this weekend
(November 13/14). Gift certificates
make great gifts, and we can order them from nearly 500 stores. Sometimes they become unavailable as we get
closer to Christmas, so order early! If
you have internet access, you can print a copy of all available stores from
this website: http://www.glscrip.com. Click on "retailers", and there is
an option for a printer-friendly version that you can print yourself. If you have any questions, please call Sandy
Champlin at 733-5235.
SPIRITWEAR:
Please look for Spiritwear
order forms coming home today. All
orders and money are due by Friday,
November 19. Make your check
payable to OLSH YAC and send orders to the office in an envelope marked
"Spiritwear". Items will be
delivered to your child's homeroom before the Christmas break.
SPECIAL NOTES
New Items: We have
added two new Spiritwear items--cheerleader shorts and a full-zip hooded
sweatshirt. Please see the separate
flyer for additional details on these items.
Christmas Gifts: If you
are ordering items as Christmas gifts and do not want your Spiritwear order
sent home with your child, please write "Christmas Gift" across the
top of your order form. I will call you
when the order arrives to make arrangement for pickup.
NEW YAC POLICY: Effective immediately, coaches are responsible for the timely
return of uniforms to the sports coordinator with a complete list of the
players and uniforms returned. The
coordinator is responsible for providing a time and location in advance to
coaches, giving the coach ample time to collect uniforms. Any player not returning a uniform cannot
participate in the succeeding OLSH sport until the uniform is returned. That player will be registered with OLSH,
will be placed on the roster, and can participate in tryouts. However, once the YAC President is notified
that the player's uniform has not been returned, the player cannot participate
in any practice or game until the President is notified that the uniform has
been returned.
DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE: During
Catholic Schools Week (January 31 through February 4, 2005), we honor a person
who graduated from OLSH at least ten years ago and who has made a significant
contribution to his/her community or church which reflects favorably on the
education received here at OLSH. A
nomination should include the nominee's name, address, year of graduation from
OLSH, additional education, and three achievements. Please send in your nominations no later than Tuesday, November
23 to the school office or the Parish Center.
