REPORT CARDS/CONFERENCES:  Parents--Please look for your child's report card  coming home today.  Included in the report card envelope will be a Parent/Teacher Conference request form.  If you would like to request a conference, please be sure to fill out the form over the weekend and return it to school on Monday, November 1 so that scheduling may be done for conferences on Thursday, November 4 and Friday, November 5.  Consult the request form for further information.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:  You may win $100 worth of books at the Book Fair!  The OLSH Scholastic Book Fair is coming to school next week, November 1 through November 7; and the students will be visiting the Book Fair in the library during their library times.  There they will be able to view and buy books.  They will also have the option of filling out their own wish list to bring home for your approval.  You may return this list in an envelope marked "Book Fair" along with a check made payable to OLSH.  We will fill your order and deliver it to your child's homeroom.  Any student making a purchase will be entered in a drawing for $100 worth of books.  Fifteen additional names will be drawn for our free poster giveaway.  Winners will be notified during school on Thursday, November 4, when they will be able to make their selections.  Teachers will have "Classroom Wish Lists" posted so that you may donate books to your child's classroom if you'd like.  On Saturday and Sunday, November 6 and 7, our Book Fair will be open to all parents, students, and parishioners.  Parents, you are also welcome to come during your child(ren)'s scheduled time, anytime during the school day (between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.), and during conferences.  Visiting the Book Fair gives you a great opportunity to look for gifts for your children, friends, teachers, and even yourself for the holidays or birthdays.  All proceeds benefit our school library.

SCHOOL UNIFORM:  Please be advised that Friday, October 29 was the last day (until April 1) that students are allowed to wear shorts as part of the school uniform.  Beginning Monday, November 1, all students must wear either long navy (grades 1-8) or khaki (grades 7 and 8) pants or the school jumper (grades 1-4) or skirt (grades 5 and 6).  Please refer to pages 23-25 of the Parent-Student Handbook for the complete dress policy.

TEENWORKS:  Teenworks will have a Halloween party for any 7th- or 8th-grade OLSH students or parishioners on Friday, October 29 from 7 p.m. 'til 10 p.m. in the Activity Center.  You must be in costume and bring a canned good that will be donated.  Plan to join us for fun, food, and games, and music!

MND MIDNIGHT MADNESS:  Come to Mt. Notre Dame High School on Friday, October 29 from 11 p.m. 'til 12:30 a.m. for some "midnight madness", when this year's Cougars scrimmage as a team for the first time.  Bring a canned good and get in free!  The team is hoping for a repeat of last year's most successful basketball season!

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:  8th Grade second & FINAL try-out date is Sunday, October 31, from 12:00 - 1:30.  If you have any questions, please call Laurie Hoffman 733-9380.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS:  Daylight Savings Time ends officially at 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 31.  Please remember to set your clocks BACK one hour before you go to bed on Saturday.  (Remember also to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.)

ELECTIONS 2004:  Our students will participate in online Kids Voting on Monday, November 1.  They will have the opportunity to cast their ballot for:  U.S. President, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, State Senator (8th District), State Representative (28th District), Hamilton County Commissioner, along with several "Kid Issues".   Total results of all Kids Voting will be posted on the Kids Voting website (www.kids-voting.org) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2; the results of OLSH Kids Voting will be emailed to us on Wednesday, November 3.    We were fortunate to have Representative Patricia Clancy visit with our fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders this past Wednesday, October 27.  Representative Clancy, a candidate for State Senator, spoke to the students about the electoral process and State government.  Her parents are OLSH Parish members.   OLSH's Community Room will be used as a voting site on Tuesday, November 2.  Encourage your parents and friends of voting age to go to the polls next Tuesday, November 2.

EARLY DISMISSAL:  We will have early dismissal (12:55 p.m.) on Thursday, November 4.  The following school districts will provide transportation home on that day:  First Student and Sycamore.   Students who normally ride buses from Indian Hill, Kings, Lakota, Mason, and Princeton will have to find other transportation home on Thursday, as those school districts are unable to provide service home at 12:55.

DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE:  During Catholic Schools Week (January 31 through February 4, 2005), we honor a person who graduated from OLSH at least ten years ago and who has made a significant contribution to his/her community or church which reflects favorably on the education received here at OLSH. A nomination should include the nominee's name, address, year of graduation from OLSH, additional education, and three achievements.

Please send in your nominations no later than Tuesday, November 23 to the school office or the Parish Center.

MARKET DAY:  Don't forget to order your holiday pies through our pie-selling contest.  The final turn-in date for contest pie order forms is Monday, November 1.  We are hoping to reach our goal of 1 pie per student - 305 pies!! See what a difference 1 pie makes!  If we sell 249 pies, we earn $1.75 per pie profit (249 pies x $1.75 profit = $435.75).  If we sell 250 pies, we earn $2.75 profit per pie (250 pies x $2.75 profit = $687.50). That's $251.75 more profit by selling just 1 more!!  If we reach our goal of 305 pies, we will earn $838.75!  Won't you help us reach that goal?
