OPENING PRAYER - Tamara called the meeting to order, then opened it with a prayer.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The May minutes were approved as written. There was one correction to the June special meeting minutes. Per Ms. Fischesser, the balance in the library account, after payment of the Follet bill for this year, is $2711.43.
TREASURER’S REPORT - Jeanne reported that we have $5887.17 in the PTO checking account. The fall fundraiser has grossed $7700 to date. Expenses occurred were $321.43 for the Principal and Welcome receptions.
OLD BUSINESS/COMMITTEE REPORTS
Welcome Back Reception - Jeanne reported that everything went well. Thank you to all the volunteers and those who were able to attend the event.
Principal’s Reception - Tamara reported that everything went well. Ms. Fischesser thanked everyone for their warm welcome to the school.
PTO Committee Sign-ups and Open Chair Positions - Katie advised us that there are 4 open chairperson positions: Kindergarten/First Grade Orientation, Spaghetti Dinner, Talent Show and Mother’s Day Flower Sale. If anyone is interested in chairing one of these events, please contact Katie Leary.
Update on Library/Librarian Position - Ms. Fischesser advised us that the Finance Committee meets on 9/25. Father Ron will discuss the librarian position with them since we need Finance Committee approval before we can proceed with hiring a person. Per Tamara, Parish Council does not need to approve this position. We still need to determine the SCRIPS funds available to PTO for the librarian position.
Ms. Fischesser knows people who may be able to help us out in the library on an interim basis. It was suggested that we consider hiring someone to oversee the library this year, and then hire someone at the end of this school year when candidate selection may be better.
Heather VonLehmden is working with the teachers on library days and times.
NEW BUSINESS
Fall Fundraiser - We have grossed $7700 to date. We have one more turn-in date.
Entertainment Books - Laura Schaeper reported that the sale will run from 9/28-10/12. Information will be sent home with the school children on 9/28. Books will also be sold after weekend masses. All proceeds from this sale go toward the library program.
Spaghetti Dinner - The chairpersons from last year will not return this year. If you are interested in chairing this event, please contact Katie Leary. It was suggested that an alternative to this fundraiser would be a progressive dinner (see below). Ms. Fischesser suggested that we may want to tie this in with Catholic Schools Week; either begin the week with the dinner, or end the week with the dinner.
Pancake Breakfast - This was discussed as an event we could hold to kick off Catholic Schools Week.. Katie Leary will check the cafeteria availability for this event. Sandy Mitsch will look for volunteers to cook the breakfast.
Progressive Dinner - Susie Finan discussed this new event as a fundraiser for the library fund. Tentative date is February 23. Susie will check the gym and/or cafeteria for availability (dessert portion of the dinner) and will recruit hostess volunteers for the appetizer and dinner portion of the event. She has already recruited some volunteer hostesses.
Bylaws Review Committee - Karen Stevenson will chair a committee that will review, and revise if necessary, the PTO Bylaws. Mrs. Tebbe, Mary Beth Armstrong and Yvonne France have volunteered to be part of this committee. If you are interested in being part of this committee, contact Karen Stevenson.
PTO Goal Setting - At the October meeting, we will discuss our PTO goals for 2007-2008. We need to ensure that our mission statement and goals are aligned, and then review our budget to ensure that the budget supports those goals.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Per Mary Beth Armstrong, the eighth grade class will plan Spirit Day this year, with help from the Spirit Day chairpersons. The event will be held on May 23.
Gina Vonderhaar mentioned the condition of the playground (quantity of mulch on the ground and the abundance of weeds). It was suggested that we add this topic to our discussion of PTO goals at the October meeting.
We approved $25 teacher start-up checks for Mary Jo Berry, Ann Hambrick and Cheryl Czulewicz. Mrs. Schatzel returned her start-up check to PTO since she no longer teaches at OLSH.

Child care services will be provided at all PTO meetings this school year. Eighth graders can receive service hours for providing this service.
A shopping fundraiser is held at Kenwood Mall and Northgate Mall. You pay $5 for a bracelet that entitles you to a 20% discount at all stores in the mall. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
