OPENING PRAYER - Tamara opened the meeting with a prayer at 7:05 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The April minutes were approved as written.

TREASURER’S REPORT - Jeanne reported the new income since last meeting: $208 from the skating party; $50 from IGA labels; $575 from March and April Market Day sales; $134 from the towel collection; $1700 from Progressive Dinner. We need to sell an additional 52 yearbooks to break even.

ORGANIZATIONAL REPORTS

Publishing Center - Pam Kennedy described the function of the Publishing Center. This is the first year Pam has chaired this activity, with the assistance of 23 volunteers. Samples of the books created by the students were shared with the membership.

Bylaws Committee - Karen Stevenson reviewed the committee’s suggested bylaw changes. After a discussion, additional changes were requested by the membership. The revised bylaws, with the suggested changes from the meeting, were approved with the exception of the question of teachers’ voting rights at the PTO meetings. Ms. Fischesser will research this further.

NOTE: Based on further research, it was decided that the bylaws will continue to read that “all members have voting rights”.

OLD BUSINESS

COSI - Thanks to all volunteers who made the Launch Into Space program a success. Next year’s program will be Agricultural Adventure. Alison O’Neill’s last year for running the COSI program is next year, so we are looking for an “apprentice” to work with her next year. If you are interested, call Alison.

Mother’s Day Flower Sale - The flowers this year were from H. J. Benken, and were a better quality than in past years. The presale of flowers is the best way to handle the flower orders. We made a $65 profit, even though this activity is not intended to be a money-generating activity.

PTO Brainstorming Sessions- As a result of the brainstorming sessions, Katie Leary will send out a survey to all school families requesting feedback on the ideas generated in the sessions. Please complete the survey and return it to Katie via Frances in 3P.

NEW BUSINESS

Spirit Day - Mrs. Geers and the eighth graders are planning the games for the Spirit Day “Olympics” which will be held on May 23. The t-shirts are being printed and should be in by next Thursday. The lunch order forms were sent out today. Sheri Fortner is coordinating the Spirit Day lunch again this year.

Graduation Reception - Laurie Hoffman is chairing this activity.

Yearbooks for 2008-2009 - Alison O’Neill reported that we must sell 126 books for next year. After discussion, it was decided that the yearbook for next year will be reduced to 40 pages (now 44) and we will have 101 copies printed. The cost will be $17.00. If anyone knows of yearbook vendors other than LifeTouch, please advise one of the PTO board members. A yearbook club for eighth graders next year was discussed.

Major Fall Fundraiser - Pam Kennedy advised us that the fall fundraiser will run from August 28 until September 11 or 12. With less students next school year, it is anticipated that we will make $10,500 profit. Since a 2-year contract was signed last year, the fall fundraiser will be re-evaluated next year.

Volunteer Solicitation - Next school year, a new method will be used to solicit volunteers for PTO activities. Sign-ups sheets, which will include a description and date of the activity, will be included in the August school packets.

2008-2009 REVISED BUDGET REVIEW

After discussion, the 2008-2009 budget was approved.
