MEETING MINUTES - MARCH 11, 2008

OPENING PRAYER - Tamara opened the meeting with a prayer at 7:05 p.m.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - The January minutes were approved as written. The February meeting was cancelled due to snow.

   

TREASURER’S REPORT - Jeanne reported that the Market Day profit since last month was $309. All the expenses for the fish fry have not yet been submitted, so we cannot determine a profit figure yet. Expenses paid since last meeting were for Grandparents/Special Person Day ($166) and the Publishing Center ($190).

 

ORGANIZATIONAL REPORTS - To allow for a discussion on the draft of the 2008-2009 PTO budget, organization reports were tabled until the April meeting.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Pancake Breakfast - Katie Leary reported that everything went very well with the Pancake Breakfast. We made a profit of over $1000.

 

4th Annual Variety Show - Tamara Anderson reported that the dress rehearsal is this Thursday from 2:30 -

4:30 p.m. It was noted that the Skating Party is also this Thursday.

 

Progressive Dinner - Susie Finan reminded everyone to RSVP by March 21 if they are interested in attending this dinner.

 

 7th/8th Grade T-shirts - This discussion was tabled until the April meeting. Alison O’Neill is chairing this committee.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Fish Fry - Mary Beth Armstrong reported that the special this weekend is shrimp fettuccine. Please come and support this event since the fish fry on March 7 was cancelled due to snow.

 

Illustrator Visit - Carol Schwartz will visit school on April 9. PTO will pay her fee of $830. We would like to continue with an author or illustrator visit each year. We may look at splitting the cost with another school.

 

Nominating Committee - Alison O’Neill will chair this committee. She will be responsible for coordinating the PTO Board election process in April. We are currently looking for candidates for all positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary). The election of new officers will be held at the April PTO meeting.

COSI - The Launch Into Space program will be presented to OLSH students on Wednesday, April 30. Alison O’Neill will be sending out additional information. It has not yet been determined if we will offer a COSI program next year.

2008-2009 Budget Draft Review - Jeanne Fisher reviewed the draft of the 2008-2009 budget. The final budget will be voted on in May. A number of things were discussed, including:

 

           Having another Pancake Breakfast to kick off the new school year. Ask the CCD students to participate in the mass.

           We must determine the status of the Spaghetti Dinner for next year.

           The library account was discussed. It was agreed that the library account will be the responsibility of PTO. All proceeds from the Scholastic Book Fair and Entertainment Books will come to PTO. Ms. Fischesser will close out her library account. PTO will be responsible for paying the library expenses.

           After a discussion with Quint, the new business manager, we have eliminated the $500 donation for tuition aid from the PTO budget.

           The budget for the Publishing Center was reduced since the teachers are not using it as frequently.

           The budget for some events was reduced based on our actual expenses for the 2007-2008 school year.

           Some of our income figures were adjusted based on actual income for the 2007-2008 school year and anticipated enrollment for 2008-2009.

           The PR Committee is allocated $300 for next school year.

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

PTO has a new website: www.olshpto.googlepages.com. This was created by Ann Falci. If you have any updates, email them to Ann at olshpto@qmail.com. Ann will work with Mrs. Gorsuch on the link to the main OLSH website. The duty of PTO webmaster will be available next school year; Ann will be responsible for it this year.

 

Please continue to send in your dingy, white dish towels to Tamara.

 

We still need a Market Day chairperson/co-chairpersons.

 

Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, April 8. Please join us! Child care services will be available.
